DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:

Oversees and manages the Apollo Media Center, including all duties related to the day-to-day operation of the facility; Responsible for the public access TV function, including orientation, training, and scheduling.

 

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES:

Building Management

  • Responsible for the overall management and operation of the Apollo Media Center, including  working with City staff and outside contractors to remedy any concerns; maintaining a safe environment with proper lighting, signage, and disability access; drafting and updating emergency plans and evacuation procedures; overseeing security, fire prevention, and other safety systems; scheduling regular building maintenance and janitorial services; resolving building-related complaints and problems, and requests; assisting with emergency response and evacuations; addressing building security issues when they arise, even when they occur outside of normal business hours.

Public Access Administration

  • Manages the Public Access TV function based at the Apollo Media Center, working closely with independent producers and Apollo staff to ensure the proper operation.  Responsibilities include orienting and training the public to be certified public access producers, and providing them with the ability to independently produce TV programming for the public access channel. Duties shall also include: maintaining records, scheduling studio and channel time, assisting producers as needed, troubleshooting of video, audio and lighting equipment in the studios, and closely interacting with the general public on access-related issues.

 

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS:

 

  • Knowledge of basic building operations, including HVAC, telephones and security systems.
  • Knowledge of studio and field-based video production work.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with others, including the general public.
  • Knowledge and understanding of video production, including studio operations.
  • Can set up and adjust studio lighting equipment including fixed and portable lights.
  • Can adjust audio equipment including assorted lavalier, cardiod and shotgun microphones.
  • Can troubleshoot building issues as well as video production equipment and facilities, and make recommendations for corrective action.
  • Has command of the English language: speaking, reading and writing.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Applicant must meet the following qualifications at time of filing application:

Bachelors Degree in video, TV or film production or a closely related field, and two years of full time experience in video, TV or film production;

OR

Six years experience in video, TV or film production
