Chief Development Officer

Dayton Christian School is seeking a Chief Development Officer. The Dayton Christian School (DCS) Chief Development Officer (CDO) is a key leadership position, responsible for driving and implementing comprehensive fundraising strategies to expand the organization’s philanthropic support. This role involves cultivating strong, sustainable relationships with donors and community partners, as well as identifying, pursuing, and managing diverse funding opportunities. The CDO leads development efforts, ensuring success in meeting and exceeding financial goals. This position is crucial in building the long-term financial sustainability of DCS and ensuring the organization’s mission is supported by a robust donor base. 

Essential Functions

  • Develop, implement, and regularly assess a comprehensive fundraising plan that encompasses major gifts, endowment/planned giving, annual giving initiatives, special events, and other revenue-generating initiatives.
  • Build and nurture long-term, donor-centric relationships with individuals, churches, businesses, and other community stakeholders. Strengthen existing partnerships while identifying new opportunities to engage donors and secure financial and in-kind support.
  • Responsible for prospect research and the identification of new donors.
  • Work closely with the Chief Enrollment and Marketing Officer (CEMO) to develop and implement strategies for donor communication, public relations, and brand awareness, ensuring consistency with the organization’s mission and branding.
  • Work in conjunction with the CEMO to procure grant opportunities.
  • Streamline development operations by enhancing donor data management, recordkeeping, gift acknowledgment, and reporting. Ensure efficiency, accuracy, and alignment with best practices in fundraising management.
  • Plan, execute, and manage fundraising and special events to cultivate donor engagement, raise awareness, and generate funds (example: DCS Gala).
  • Participate in leadership meetings and contribute to strategic decisions that support the overall success and growth of Dayton Christian School.
  • Collaborate with and support the Dayton Christian SGO Board.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Head of School in support of the organization’s mission and strategic goals.

Qualifications, Experience, and Education

  • Born again believer with an active personal relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ; demonstrated commitment to a Christ-centered lifestyle as outlined in the DCS Handbook.
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in nonprofit fundraising; CFRE credentials preferred
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to engage diverse audiences effectively
  • Strong leadership and team management abilities
  • A team player who thrives in a collaborative environment and fosters strong working relationships both internally and externally
  • Proficiency with donor database software and Microsoft Office Suite (Raiser’s Edge NXT preferred)
  • Strong problem-solving and strategic thinking skills with the ability to identify innovative fundraising opportunities and overcome challenges
  • A proactive, results-driven professional who takes initiative and completes projects efficiently
  • Actively involved in a Christian church, demonstrating a commitment to the values and mission of Dayton Christian School.
