Data Analyst

Position Overview

 

The I-PASS Patient Safety Institute prides itself on delivering efficient, effective solutions to healthcare organizations to implement a standard handoff communication method (I-PASS). We’re currently seeking a Data Analyst to join our versatile and growing company. The ideal candidate will have a strong analytics background in business or healthcare, particularly in patient safety or quality improvement. The primary responsibilities of the Data Analyst will be to provide insight and guidance regarding data collection and analysis processes at the Institute and to support the needs of our Implementation Team. This individual should be motivated by the desire to optimize productivity and inform iterative improvement cycles through data-driven insights. This role will regularly collaborate internally with business development, marketing, technology, and operations teams in a fast-paced environment. The Data Analyst is a remote position but requires residency within the United States. This role will report to the Vice President of Client Operations.

Time & Travel Requirement

  • 40 hours / week
  • Travel less than 10% of the time 

 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Support development of data-driven insights for client implementations
  • Support internal client data needs for the I-PASS Institute 
    • Inform internal data evaluation processes 
      • Create best-practice reports and guidance based on data cleaning, analysis, and visualization
      • Evaluate internal systems for efficiency and inaccuracies, and develop and maintain protocols for handling, processing, and cleaning data
    • Ensure internal datasets reflect the most current data collected from I-PASS clients
      • Develop and maintain databases by acquiring data from all necessary sources, and establish practices that will ensure our data evaluation process is flexible and scalable 
    • Provide insight regarding key trends in overall client performance for adherence to I-PASSS metrics 
      • Identify trends and opportunities for growth through analysis of complex datasets
      • Develop data dashboards to support decision-making for the I-PASS Implementation and Commercial teams
  • Work directly with Program Managers and I-PASS clients to define clear requirements for project data collection and provide guidance on best practices 
    • Deliver actionable insights to decision-makers for various I-PASS implementation efforts 
    • Proactively analyze data to answer key questions for internal and external stakeholders, and assess opportunities for improvement
    • Develop custom dashboards to highlight key project metrics for each client
  • Create and maintain interactive visualizations through data interpretation and analysis
  • Identify and communicate trends within client data as directed by the needs of the project  
    • Convey insights visually and via written reports when required

 

  • Business team collaboration
    • Regularly maintain and present an amalgamation of client data to internal business team via dashboards and written reports (as required)
    • Attend all regularly scheduled team meetings and off-site visits. These include but are not limited to:
      • Weekly staff and team meetings 
      • Other business team meetings will be held on an ad hoc basis in Boston, MA 
      • Implementation Team retreats in Grand Rapids, MI
    • Partner with internal technology team to inform priorities and specifications for new development and expansion within current data collection and assessment platforms

 

  • General operations & customer support
    • Provide technical support for I-PASS Institute data platforms when requested
    • Participate in group discussions regarding how to improve and expand implementation solutions
    • Complete required privacy and security training on an annual basis
    • Participate in professional development opportunities on an annual basis

 

Competencies & Required Skills

  • Data Analysis & Visualization – Reviewing project metrics for trends and insight across client sites and creating reports to reflect findings that can be shared with internal stakeholders and clients. 
  • Collaboration – Work with other members of the I-PASS team to understand their needs relative to data and help them develop data-driven decisions in their area of focus. 
  • Regulatory Skills – Understanding and abiding by current regulations, as well as adapting to new laws.
  • Communication Skills – Effectively communicating to convey key insights to other health professionals and ensuring compliance with current regulations and laws.
  • Technical Skills – Staying current in healthcare technology advancements and data analytics for coding and classification software usage.
  • Critical Thinking & Discernment – Identifying strengths and weaknesses and finding alternative solutions or approaches to problems through logic and reasoning. 
  • Decision Making – Examining both benefits and consequences of potential actions to help determine those most appropriate for both immediate and long-term success of I-PASS and our clients.
  • Strategic Thinking – Evaluating opportunities for growth and improvement within and beyond I-PASS customer sites.

 

Qualifications or Equivalent Career Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in mathematics, computer science, economics, or statistics (relevant and successful experience may be substituted for formal education). Master’s degree in related field preferred.
  • 1-3 years of experience in a Data Analyst role or related position 
  • Ability to work in small entrepreneurial environment and learn new tasks and skills quickly
  • Ability to exercise flexibility with prioritization of tasks and job responsibilities
  • Proficiency with data analysis and visualization software and techniques (SQL, Excel, SPSS, SAS, R, Tableau, Power BI, etc.) with the ability to quickly learn how to use organization-specific platforms
  • Technical writing experience in relevant areas, including queries, reports, and presentations
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data in the context of change management initiatives

  • Compensation will be commensurate with education, experience, and skills
  • This is a benefit-eligible and exempt position
