Job Description
Position: Educational Aide (Multiple Disabilities and Emotional Disturbances Program)
Reports to: Special Education Supervisor
Employment Status: Regular/Full-Time
Description: Under the immediate supervision of the classroom teacher of multiple disabilities (MD) and emotional disturbance (ED) students, help in the preparation and presentation of activities, supervision, and fulfillment of students’ Individual Education Plans (IEP).
Note: The lists below are not ranked in order of importance.
Essential Functions:
- Ensure the safety of students.
- Maintain respect at all times for confidential information, such as student IEPs, testing information, and student and staff information.
- Interact positively with staff, students, and parents.
- Assist in the preparation and presentation of teacher-planned activities.
- Assist with the presentation of lessons, activities, and small groups of students after appropriate teacher training.
- Supervise and monitor students in all school settings based on teacher instruction and students' IEPs.
- Assist teachers in implementing behavior management plans necessary for the habilitation and education of MD and ED students.
- Participation in a team approach to develop behavior management interventions for student behavior.
- Assist in necessary physical care to maintain the health and welfare of the students.
- Assist in maintaining the cleanliness and appearance of the classroom.
- Work with other MD and ED staff in team approaches to decision-making.
- Assist in completing necessary documentation and paperwork for charting behavior and academic progress.
- Promote good public relations by personal appearance, attitude, and conversation.
- Attend work regularly and punctually.
- Demonstrate a positive work ethic.
- Work cooperatively with others in small groups.
Other Duties and Responsibilities
- Attend training sessions as determined by the state or county policies and procedures.
- Attend meetings and in-services as required.
- Attend parent conferences, home visits, or team meetings with school staff at the supervisor's request.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Special Education Supervisor.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma
- Ability to work with students with behavioral difficulties
- Ohio Educational Aide Certificate
- Physically capable of doing student transfers as necessary to maintain the care of the students in the classroom
- Training in Crisis Prevention Intervention
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent and/or Board of Education may find appropriate.
