About the role
We’re hiring a part-time undergraduate intern to support patent landscape research and help our R&D team translate findings into clear, decision-ready insights.
What you’ll do
- Run structured searches in patent databases (e.g., Google Patents, USPTO) to map technology spaces and competitors.
- Review and synthesize non-patent literature to complement patent findings.
- Tag and organize results (assignees, CPC/IPC classes, jurisdictions, families, citations).
- Identify trends, white spaces, and notable prior art.
- Build brief reports with figures/tables to communicate results to R&D.
- Maintain clean spreadsheets and references for reproducibility.
You are
An undergraduate junior or senior majoring in Chemistry or Business/Law-related fields (e.g., business, pre-law/legal studies). Careful, curious, and great at turning complex material into clear writing.
Required skills
- Familiarity with patent structures and applications.
- Literature review and technical writing.
- Comfortable working in Google Sheets/Excel for organizing results.
Nice to have
- Experience with Google Patents and USPTO search.
- Understanding of CPC/IPC classes and citation networks.
- Experience with data visualization in Sheets/Excel.
- Exposure to basic IP concepts (prior art, novelty, obviousness).
- Optional: simple scripting (Python or Sheets formulas) for data cleanup.
