Allendale Association is seeking a motivated and dedicated Specialized Education Paraprofessional to join our team of professionals committed to providing exceptional care and education in a therapeutic environment.
Position Summary:
The Specialized Education Paraprofessional provides direct care and supervision of students within the school milieu in accordance with the agency’s treatment program, including the Agency Behavior Treatment Plan (ABTP) and Universal Rules. Under the direct supervision of teaching staff, the Paraprofessional assists in classroom instruction, management, and activities to ensure a positive and effective learning environment.
During non-school days, and under the supervision of the Unit Coordinator, this position implements individual and group programming on the residential units, supporting the emotional and educational development of students in care.
Responsibilities:
- Provide consistent supervision and care to students in alignment with Allendale’s therapeutic model.
- Assist teaching staff with classroom instruction, behavior management, and academic activities.
- Support the implementation of individualized education and treatment plans.
- Maintain a safe, structured, and nurturing environment that promotes student learning and growth.
- Facilitate individual and group activities on residential units during non-school days.
- Record and report student progress and behavioral observations as required.
Required Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or G.E.D.
- Paraprofessional License (must be obtained within 30 days of employment).
- Demonstrated proficiency in basic math, reading, language arts, and other core academic subjects or vocational areas.
- Must be at least 21 years of age (per DCFS regulations).
- Valid Driver’s License and good driving record.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Minimum of six (6) months related experience, preferably in a special education environment.
- Experience in a residential or therapeutic day school setting.
- School Bus Driver Permit (preferred, not required).
Salary Range:
$16.50 – $21.27 per hour (based on experience and qualifications)
