The Environmental Compliance Division of EMD is looking for students that are working towards a degree in a science major such as Environmental Studies/Science, Biology, Geology, Public Health, or a related field. Appointment to this class is restricted to students enrolled full-time in an accredited technical school, junior college, or four-year university. Incumbent curriculum must lead to a program certificate, Associate’s, Bachelor’s, or advanced degree.
Must be able to work 20-24 hours a week.
Incumbent will work under close supervision in the Environmental Compliance Division.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Assist with public outreach, messaging, website revitalization, and in person workshops. Assist
in the development of guidance materials and compliance support tools.
- Provide project support in programs such as small water systems, wells, liquid waste, cross
connection and hazardous materials, hazardous waste, underground and aboveground storage tanks.
- Learn about the field of Environmental Health, meet and work with Environmental Specialist
professionals. Hone your skills in public outreach, education and project support and management.
Student intern positions are temporary and may continue for up to three years after initial start date or up to one year after graduating.
Sacramento County Environmental Management Department protects public health and the environment by ensuring compliance with environmental regulations, and providing residents and businesses with education, training, inspection, and enforcement. Some programs within EMD include: Hazardous Materials, Incident Response, Wells, Liquid Waste, Underground Storage Tanks, Small Water Systems and solid waste.
