Environmental Health Scientist 1

The Louisiana Department of Health, Section of Environmental Epidemiology and Toxicology is seeking two part-time Environmental Health Scientist 1 positions (approximately 25 hours/week). The positions are assigned to the Bringing Health Equity for Asthmatics through Healthier Environments (BREATHE) Program, a virtual home visiting program focused on providing asthma services that take environmental triggers of asthma into account. These positions will primarily be responsible for identifying potential partners and engaging with existing touch points, including community-based organizations, Public Health Units (PHUs), WIC clinics, community health worker networks, local clinics and clinicians focused on respiratory therapy, etc. They will conduct outreach and education on Healthy Homes principles to prevent asthma exacerbation in collaboration with the identified partners. They will also provide direct services to BREATHE clients through virtual Healthy Home assessments. Minimum qualifications include a bachelor's degree in one of the following fields: public health, biological sciences, physical sciences, earth sciences, environmental sciences, engineering or a related field. 

 

The ideal candidate will have strong partnership building skills, have the ability to travel, attend community events during evenings/weekends on occasion, and a passion for improving the public health of Louisiana citizens. Flexible work schedules can accommodate candidates pursuing master’s degree, etc. Positions are in-person and based in New Orleans, Louisiana.
