TITLE: SUBSTITUTE TEACHER                    

JOB STATUS: TEMPORARY - FLSA EXEMPT                                  

REPORTS TO: HUMAN RESOURCES – SUBSTITUTE SERVICES     

STARTING SALARY: $18.00/HOUR

ASSESSMENT/JOB POSTING INFORMATION                

This posting is to apply for the SUBSTITUTE TEACHER assessment. Those who pass the assessment will be added to the SUBSTITUTE TEACHER eligible lists. Candidates applying to this post and passing the assessment will be considered for a Substitute Teacher position only.

 

A college degree of Bachelor’s or higher is required for this position. Only candidates who have provided verification of a college degree will be scheduled for the assessment.

 

The assessment process will consist of a web-based, computerized assessment. Candidates must have a valid picture ID to take the assessment. Approved applicants will be notified by email of their scheduled test date and time. If special accommodations are required to test, please email classifiedservices@columbus.k12.oh.us. 

 

POSITION OVERVIEW:

In the absence of the regular classroom teacher, the substitute, assists the students to learn subject matter and/or skills that are required for scheduled lessons and provides meaningful instruction for assigned classrooms.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

The statements below are intended to describe the general nature and scope of work being performed by this position. This is not a complete listing of all responsibilities, duties, and/or skills required. Other duties may be assigned.

 

·           Carries out a program of study prescribed in the lesson plans left by the regular classroom teacher.

·           Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.

·           Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and objectives as indicated in the lesson plans for the lessons, units or projects assigned.

·           Employs instructional methods and materials that are most appropriate for meeting lesson objectives.

·           Maintains a well-organized and orderly classroom.

·           Takes attendance in accordance with school procedures.

·           Performs duties of absent teacher such as lunchroom duty, hall monitoring, and bus detail.

·           Knows emergency evacuations routes for the classroom assigned.

·           Knows procedures for referring students who have disciplinary problems.

·           Knows school procedures and regulations.

·           Performs other related duties as directed by the principal.

·           Reports to school office at the beginning of school day for required materials/schedule of classes and at the end of the school day to return materials. Followed sign-in and sign-out procedures as prescribed.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

·    Bachelor's Degree

·    Satisfactory completion of an FBI/BCI background checks

·    Valid Ohio Department of Education teacher certification/licensure

 

PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:

·       Tools/Equipment Use: Desktop PC with keyboard and mouse, laptop, scanner, calculator, software, desk, and adjustable chair.

·       Posture: Prolonged sitting and standing; occasional stooping, bending, squatting, kneeling, bending, pushing, pulling and twisting.

·       Motion: Frequent repetitive hand motions, including keyboarding and use of a mouse; occasional reaching

·       Lifting: Occasional lifting and carrying (less than 10 pounds)

·       Environment: Works in office setting; may require occasional irregular hours and/or prolonged hours.

·       Attendance: Regular and punctual attendance at the worksite is required for this position.

·       Mental Demands: Maintains emotional control under stress; works with frequent interruptions.
