Inspection Service Student Intern - San Jose CA
FUNCTIONAL PURPOSE:
U.S. Postal Inspection Service Interns will apply their knowledge and understanding of principles and practices gained from their program of study to support the investigative programs and/or business operations for a Federal law enforcement agency. Depending upon assignment, Interns will support projects, or a major component of a project in a specific functional or geographical area and will focus on a range of topics (e.g., investigations, finance, forensics, cyber security, computer programming, data analytics). PROGRAM ELIGIBILITY: To be eligible for this program all applicants must have earned at least 48 credit hours towards a bachelors degree, and be currently enrolled in either a bachelors or graduate degree program with a college or university accredited by a national or regional accreditation organization recognized and sanctioned by the U.S. Department of Education.
OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
This job is for use only with the internship program. Internships begin in the fall, spring, or summer and typically last for at least 10 weeks. To be eligible for this program, applicants must meet the established education requirement and be currently enrolled in a bachelor?s degree program or graduate degree program with a college or university accredited by a national or regional accreditation organization recognized and sanctioned by the U.S. Department of Education.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Collaborates with supervisor to review project plans to achieve assignment goals, including understanding project activities, deadlines, and identifying key stakeholders.
2. Develops documents, files, and materials as needed for the project. Writes instructions, records activities, and verifies accuracy/ comprehensiveness of information.
3. Coordinates with co-workers as a team member to meet project goals.
4. Utilizes a variety of methodologies to research, collect, analyze, and interpret data to assist in project planning and develop project materials and documents. Compiles and documents researched data to inform recommendations based on identified trends and insights; prepares technical reports and presentations for management review.
5. Assists with preparing and facilitating meetings, working sessions, and focus groups as necessary to gather and compile information for the project.
6. Completes project management activities; prioritizes tasks and assignments based on timelines and objectives. Ensures deliverables are prepared in a timely manner.
7. Receives and implements work instructions and guidance from supervisor.

- EDUCATION REQUIREMENT: Enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's degree program with at least 48 earned credit hours towards a bachelors degree in one of the following fields: Criminal Justice, Business, Social Sciences, STEM, or a related field to one specified above from an accredited college or university by a national or regional accreditation organization recognized and sanctioned by the U.S. Department of Education.
- SPECIAL CONDITIONS: Applicant must submit to a Moderate Background Investigation (MBI) or Tier 2 investigation. This investigation requires, among other things, completion of a questionnaire and fingerprinting for a criminal records check. The investigation may require a drug test. The successful applicant will be required to meet and maintain the requirements of this level of background investigation while holding this position.
