Engineering Intern - OpEx Distribution

Engineering Intern, OpEx Distribution - Olathe, KS

 

As an operational excellence intern, you will be integrated into one or more of the Olathe, Kansas Distribution Center process paths, focusing on process improvement.  You will utilize lean techniques to standardize and simplify a process delivering value to our internal and external customers.  By measuring key performance indicators before and after implementation you will be able to determine level of success.  Engagement with the team members to understand the nuances of the process(es) and listening to the team’s needs will be essential throughout the change management procedure.

 

Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to be employed in the United States. The company does not intend to provide sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g., H-1B, TN, etc.) for this employment position. 

 

What You Will Do:

  • Dedicate majority of time(60%-80%) on the shop floor(Gemba) in assigned process path(s)
  • Participate in discussions with team and understand process(es) involved in assigned department
  • Work with team to identify opportunities for improvement and implementation
  • Learn/Utilize lean tools & techniques such as standardization, problem solving, people engagement, leadership soft-skills, one-piece flow, Kanban/pull systems, continuous improvement, value stream mapping, visual management, error proofing, 5S, training, etc.
  • Obtain the experience to create a foundation for growth and future opportunities with Allegion

 

What You Need to Succeed:

  • Pursuing a degree in a relevant discipline, e.g. Engineering, Supply Chain or related field
  • Resiliency, flexibility and ability to adapt quickly
  • An inquisitive nature that seeks to understand concepts and principles about distribution/fulfillment and the Allegion business practices
  • Effective listening, time management and creative problem-solving techniques
  • A desire to learn, grow and develop by working on projects that will impact Allegion’s business and customers
