The exam is expected to be administered once a month. Approved applicants will be notified by email of their scheduled test date and time.
This is not a remote position.
Under general supervision, is responsible for operating typewriters or personal computers and for performing varied and complex clerical tasks; performs related duties as required.
SUBSTITUTE SECRETARY
Substitute Secretaries work as needed. Substitute Secretaries may work in a school or administrative building. Duties will vary depending upon location and supervisor.
Substitute Secretaries who have passed the Secretary I exam are eligible for promotion to permanent Secretary I positions when available.

Examples of Work:
- Types letters, memoranda, records, reports and other documents from clear copy, rough draft, and other sources.
- Classifies, sorts., and files carious data, records, and reports alphabetically and numerically.
- Interviews office and telephone callers and endeavors to resolve minor problems and furnish requested information.
- Approves invoices for payment.
- Processes payroll attendance reports.
- Performs math computations (whole numbers, percentages, decimals).
- Prepares requisitions and accounts for equipment and materials.
- Completes or maintains data and information on computer forms.
- Proofreads documents for accuracy.
- Issues various office correspondence and communications to appropriate personnel.
- Operates a personal computer to obtain process or file data and information.
- Administers basic first aid and may issue medication as required.
- Assists in resolving minor problems of students.
- May communicate on a two-way radio or public address system.
Minimum Qualifications:
Any combination of training and experience equivalent to completion of the twelfth school grade and one (1) year of typing and/or word processing experience. Substitution(s): A certification of completion from an approved secretarial program will be accepted in lieu of one (1) year of typing and/or word processing experience.

The names of the applicants passing this administration of this exam will be used to Merge with an existing Open Competitive eligible list for this classification. If you are interested in having your name included on the new eligible list, you will need to apply for this position within the filing period indicated above and successfully complete all phases of the testing process. It is the responsibility of all applicants to provide a complete list of relevant work experience (previous and current) on the application. Resumes will not be accepted in lieu of listed work experience. Unless otherwise indicated, any year of required experience is based on 12 months of full time employment. The examination process will consist of a computerized exam covering entry level secretarial skills including, Math, Bank Reconciliation, Petty Cash, Reading Comprehension, Record Locating, Word, Excel and Outlook. If special accommodations are required to test, please complete an Accommodations Request located on the CCS website @ https://www.ccsoh.us/Page/2353. Accommodations Requests must be made upon application submission.
The exam is web-based. Approved applicants will be notified by email of their scheduled test date and time.
Candidates must have a valid picture ID to take the exam.
All applicants must complete all phases of the testing process in order to receive a final score. The names of all candidates who pass this examination will remain on the eligible list for two years, unless the eligible list is replaced prior to or extended beyond the two years. If a candidate's name is certified and the candidate is to be considered for employment, the hiring process will include one or more interviews, a criminal background check, and may include a pre-employment drug test.
The certification process will be the top 10 candidates on the eligible list, or top 25% of the list, whichever is greater, based on overall test score.
