OVERVIEW
The Development and Communications Intern supports the daily operations of Metro Housing|Boston’s Development and Communications department. This internship provides hands-on experience in nonprofit fundraising, donor relations, event planning, and strategic communications.
Learning Objectives:
By the end of the internship, participants will:
• Gain practical experience in nonprofit fundraising, donor engagement, and event logistics
• Build skills in written and digital communications for nonprofit audiences
• Learn about affordable housing policy and the role of communications in advocacy
• Gain exposure to tools and systems commonly used in nonprofit development
This internship offers meaningful professional experience and a behind-the-scenes look at how a mission-driven nonprofit operates to support housing stability across Greater Boston.
DETAILS
- Hours: 20 hours per week, flexible schedule
- Duration: 6 months / 1 semester, with potential for renewal
- Start Date: November 17, 2025
- Compensation: $18/hour
- Format: In-office
- Eligibility: Open to current undergraduate and graduate students as well as recent graduates

Director of Fundraising & Communications
RESPONSIBILITIES MAY INCLUDE:

- Process donations and gifts received by the organization in Raiser’s Edge.
- Maintain and monitor the Development Department’s email inbox.
- Process thank-you letters and acknowledgments for donations and gifts.
- Update and assist with the monthly finance disbursement report.
- Support coordination of fundraising events, including logistics and communications.
- Conduct donor, corporate, and foundation research as needed for the department.
- Provide administrative support and perform miscellaneous tasks as needed for the Development and Communications Department.
- Develop marketing collateral, such as flyers for workshops, for various departments.
- Draft copy and create graphics for social posts.
- Support with content planning.
- Write copy for internal and external newsletter.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Current undergraduate or graduate student.
- Strong writing, communication, and organizational skills.
- Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Interest in nonprofit fundraising, communications, marketing, or event management.
- Positive attitude, flexibility, and eagerness to learn.
- Demonstrated professionalism and commitment to Metro Housing|Boston’s mission.
