Intern - Chesapeake Libraries - Librarian

The City of Chesapeake is accepting applications for a Spring 2026 Internship (Monday, January 12 – Friday, April 24, 2026) with the Chesapeake Libraries. The primary location will be held at the Central Library but will assist at various library locations. The internship will gain valuable experience in the following areas:

Key Tasks

  • Compile materials and co-lead instructions for new employee orientation for new hires and volunteers
  • Creating monthly themed end cap displays or rotating display tables
  • Creating flyers and displays for program and library display marketing needs
  • Maintain and monitor volunteer inbox support and meet and greets
  • Support event prep, logistics, and A/V needs for our Staff Day.
  • Assist the Circulation Unit with workroom duties and tasks and Shelf Cleaning, Maintenance, & Reading
  • Special projects from the Strategic Initiatives & Training & Staff Services Teams
  • Support the Admin Team with outreach events, community programs, training courses, and library events, including event prep, day of support, and event breakdown.
  • Attend various library group meetings and work with various library unit leads.
  • Create a training presentation on a library-theme topic to be presented to library staff at our Staff Day

VOCATIONAL/EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT:

  • Must be enrolled in an American Library Association accredited master’s degree program in Library Science.
  • Must be a college student in good academic standing, or a recent college graduate (i.e., within one year of graduation).
