Labor Relations Representative 

The California School Employees Association is recruiting Labor Relations Representatives to represent our members in negotiations, grievances, arbitrations and organizing. If you have experience in this field, have completed graduate studies, and feel passionate about improving California this opportunity may have special appeal to you!   

We have over 250,000 members who work in 750 school districts in California. Our members provide support services to school children as para-educators, administrators, food service, bus drivers, nurses, and skilled employees in grounds, maintenance and operations. CSEA is the largest independent classified school employees union in the world.

This is a great position if you are looking for hands-on experience in employment and labor relations, and want to make a difference in improving lives, education and communities.

JOB DUTIES

  • Negotiates contracts through collective bargaining
  • Represents members in hearings and proceedings
  • Identifies and develops member leaders, chapter officers and stewards
  • Provide leadership to employee and rank-and-file negotiators and committees in collective bargaining
  • Advises and influences members, stewards, officials and staff
  • Recruits and develops activists for internal union activities and political campaigns

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL POSSESS THE FOLLOWING QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience in collective bargaining, representation, advocacy, or dispute resolution proceedings helpful, but not required
  • A strong desire to recruit and mobilize volunteers around important issues
  • Experience with database management a strong plus
  • Ability to foster collaborative relationships with diverse groups, as well as with professional, technical, administrative and service employees
  • Clear and concise communications skills, in speech and in writing
  • The ability to work occasional weekends or travel overnight
  • Valid driver's license, car and insurance
