Legal Assistance Intern

As a Legal Assistance Intern, you will support our team in providing critical legal assistance to migrants held in internment centers for foreigners who are facing expulsion from the country. This internship offers a unique opportunity to contribute to meaningful work, advocating for the rights of individuals in vulnerable situations and gaining hands-on experience in legal advocacy and immigration law.

Key Responsibilities:

Legal Support:

  • Assist the legal team in conducting interviews with migrants in internment centers to gather relevant case information.
  • Help document and organize case details to support legal arguments and filings.
  • Research immigration laws, policies, and case precedents to support ongoing cases.
  • Client Interaction:
  • Provide empathetic and professional support to individuals during interviews.
  • Facilitate clear communication between migrants and the legal team to ensure understanding of legal processes.

Administrative Assistance:

  • Assist in preparing and organizing legal documentation, case files, and reports.
  • Help coordinate meetings, schedules, and communication with external partners or legal representatives.
  • Advocacy and Collaboration:
  • Collaborate with the team on strategies to advocate for fair treatment and compliance with human rights standards.
  • Contribute to discussions and initiatives aimed at improving systemic support for migrants.

    Interviews with migrants takes place one day per week in another province (Algeciras, Cadiz) which is 200 kilometers away from Sevilla.

About the Organization

We are a non-profit organisation promoted by the Arrupe Centre and the Christian Life Community in Seville (CVX), founded in 2000 and operating in Andalusia. Our association is part of the Social Apostolate and belongs to the Jesuit Migrant Service (SJM) Spain, a network of organisations that works to defend the rights of migrants and their full access to citizenship.

ADDITIONAL BENEFITS

On-site Supervision and Support

Our internships include 24/7 on-site staff to support students working and living abroad. All students will also report to a supervisor at their internship site. Supervisors provide and oversee daily tasks, introduce the intern to team members, and mentor the intern in organizational agility, skill acquisition, and career readiness. Interns complete a midpoint and final evaluation, and supervisors complete a final evaluation of their interns. All work responsibilities and projects are approved in advance. 

Academic Credit

Students on an internship have the opportunity to enroll in their home university for credit, or enroll in a course through API to transfer back to their university for credit. Email support-internships@apiexperience.com for more information and a syllabus.

Housing and Excursions

Housing and excursions are included in your internship and will be selectable during the application process.
