Overview
We are seeking a motivated and passionate MS Graduate Student Candidate with a background of Biology or Ecology to study Microbial Bioinformatics and Environmental Microbiology. This position offers an exciting opportunity to engage in cutting-edge research at the intersection of microbial biology and computational analysis. The successful candidate will contribute to projects that leverage bioinformatics, trace amount of metal instrumental analysis, and statistical analysis to advance our understanding of microbial ecosystems and their applications in environmental contexts.
Responsibilities
- Conduct research in microbial bioinformatics and environmental microbiology, focusing on the analysis of complex microbiological and environmental data sets.
- Assist to prepare and teach microbiology laboratory of senior college students.
- Learn and develop algorithms using R or Python for data processing and analysis.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to design experiments that integrate molecular biology techniques with computational methods.
- Maintain accurate documentation of research findings and methodologies.
- Present research results at meetings and contribute to scientific publications.
Qualifications
- Strong background in Biology, Microbial Biology, Ecology or a related field; experience with microbiology, molecular biology and bioinformatics is preferred.
- A decent GPA and GRE is not required.
- Understanding of statistical analysis methods relevant to biological data interpretation.
- Excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, for effective collaboration and presentation of research findings.
This position provides an excellent opportunity for graduate students looking to make significant contributions to the field of microbial bioinformatics and environmental microbiology while gaining valuable hands-on experience in a dynamic research environment.
The successful applicant will be offered two years of assistantships ($21,000 plus tuition waiver (~$8,000) per year). The selected student will start the program in the Fall of 2026.
