Director Of Development
Position Summary
Northern Ohio Recovery Association (NORA), a nonprofit organization committed to promoting long-term recovery and wellness through peer-based support and evidence-based treatment services, is seeking an experienced and dynamic Director of Development. This position is responsible for designing, implementing, and managing all fundraising and development initiatives to advance NORA’s mission and ensure long-term sustainability. The Director of Development will lead the organization’s comprehensive development strategy—including annual giving, major gifts, grants, and capital campaigns. The role requires a dynamic and strategic professional capable of cultivating strong relationships with donors, corporations, foundations, and community partners while effectively communicating NORA’s mission and impact.
Key Responsibilities
● Develop and implement a strategic fundraising plan to achieve annual and long-term revenue goals in a cost-effective and time-efficient manner.
● Plan, coordinate, and lead a multi-phase capital campaign to support the development of recovery housing and expansion initiatives.
● Conduct market and project analyses, including SWOT assessments, donor trends, and community perception studies, to inform campaign strategy.
● Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward donors across individual, corporate, and foundation sectors.
● Manage and maintain a robust donor prospect pipeline, ensuring accurate tracking of cultivation and stewardship activities.
● Collaborate with the Executive Director, Board of Directors, and campaign committees to develop and implement cultivation and solicitation strategies.
● Partner with the marketing team to create and manage donor-focused communication materials, campaign collateral, and consistent messaging.
● Develop and oversee budgets for fundraising initiatives, ensuring accurate financial tracking and reporting.
● Prepare campaign reports, fundraising progress summaries, and donor impact updates for internal and external stakeholders.
● Coordinate donor recognition programs and ensure timely acknowledgment of all contributions.
● Plan and execute donor cultivation events, stewardship activities, and community engagement opportunities.
● Manage grant proposals, sponsorship solicitations, and other funding opportunities to diversify NORA’s revenue streams.
● Lead and mentor development staff, volunteers, and interns supporting fundraising activities.
● Maintain compliance with all applicable fundraising regulations, ethical standards, and reporting requirements.
● Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
● Bachelor’s degree in nonprofit management, communications, business, or a related field required; Master’s degree preferred.
● Minimum of five (5) years of experience in nonprofit fundraising or development, with a
demonstrated record of success in major gifts or capital campaigns.
● Experience in behavioral health, recovery services, or healthcare-related nonprofit work preferred.
● Proven ability to plan and implement comprehensive fundraising campaigns, including annual giving, major gifts, and events.
● Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
● Proficiency in donor database management, fundraising software, and Microsoft Office Suite.
● Strong organizational and analytical skills, with keen attention to detail and deadlines.
● Ability to collect, analyze, and report on donor giving trends and outcomes.
● Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required.
Preferred Skills
● Seven or more years of experience leading successful fundraising or capital campaigns.
● Experience collaborating with boards, committees, and executive leadership in development planning.
● Knowledge of donor recognition practices, direct mail, email solicitation, and digital fundraising strategies.
● Demonstrated experience in grant writing and reporting.
● Skilled in public speaking and presenting to diverse audiences.
● Experience developing and managing budgets for complex fundraising initiatives.
● Familiarity with the recovery community and behavioral healthcare systems.
● Ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities and projects.
