QC Lab Technician, Probiotics

QC Lab Technician I (Probiotics)

 

Job Overview: The QC Lab Tech is responsible for all aspects of quality control in the laboratory, as well as maintaining laboratory methods for testing and examination. This individual is required to follow cGMP (current Good Manufacturing Practices) and all applicable Standard Operating Procedures, and Food Safety Regulations.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities – Not applicable.

 

Responsibilities and Duties

  1. Prepare and perform microbiological tests on raw materials, in-process samples, finished products, and environmental samples. Specific tests include total aerobic microbial count (TAMC), total yeast and mold count (TYMC), and other related microbiological tests.
  2. Strictly follow aseptic techniques to prevent cross-contamination of samples, media, and test environments during the plating and culturing processes.
  3. Prepare, sterilize, and maintain culture media, reagents, and other laboratory solutions needed for testing.
  4. Place plates and samples into incubators at the correct temperature and for the specified duration. Perform accurate colony counting and analysis according to standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  5. Properly label, log, and store all incoming samples. Ensure the correct tracking and traceability of samples and results throughout the testing process. 
  6. Maintain accurate, detailed, and clear records of all tests conducted, observations, and results in laboratory notebooks or a Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
  7. Communicate with team members and management to resolve any issues or concerns related to product quality.
  8. Ensure proper handling and disposal of biohazardous materials.
  9. Ensure quality control and assurance in laboratory processes and results.
  10. Perform routine maintenance, cleaning, and calibration checks on all laboratory equipment, including autoclaves, incubators, and pH meters, to ensure optimal performance.
  11. Monitor and maintain inventory levels of laboratory supplies, including media, and reagents, and place orders as needed.
  12. Work effectively as part of a team, communicating information clearly to coworkers and management. 

 

Qualifications

  • Ability to multi-task.
  • Superior communication (verbal & written)
  • Ability to prioritize and organize in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. 
  • Ability to address issues, follow up, and implement solutions as required.

 

Education/Experience

  • A.S. or higher degree in Science, Biology or Chemistry preferred.
  • Knowledge of Analytical Chemistry preferred.

 

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to carry weight up to 25 pounds.
