Akron Community Internship: Friends In Tents Community Outreach Assistant

Mission Statement

Hours: 100 hours during the internship.
Date: Fall 2025 (exact dates TBD to accommodate student schedules) 
Location: MWF 2-5pm, Tue 6-9pm @ their building. Some Sundays available for camp visits/street outreach.

 

Role Description

  • Be the first contact for clients at the FIT building
  • Keep track of building guests for grants/ data collection
  • Be comfortable with harm reduction strategies and techniques
  • Be willing to help with clothing donations, food prep, and resource gathering

Qualifications

  • UA student in Social Work, Law, Sociology, Psychology, Counseling, etc.
  • Ability to navigate Akron resources (211, in person meetings, etc.)
  • Some tech experience (Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and iOS Apple)
  • Case management, grant writing, trauma informed care experience a plus
  • Lived experience with homelessness is a plus
