Specialist, Admissions

ABOUT

 

The Office of Admissions is responsible for maintaining the enrollment pipeline of students to TJC. This is accomplished through recruiting efforts and accurate and efficient coordination of admission applications to the College. The Office of Admissions is the first point of contact for prospective students, parents, and other members of the community; prompt, accurate and courteous customer service is critical to the successful operation of this office. 

 

WHAT YOU WILL DO

 

Primary Responsibilities

  • Foster an environment that is student focused and committed to excellence.
  • Recruit students from assigned high schools / territory.
  • Plan and coordinate all aspects of general high school and student-based outreach and recruitment activities, including scheduling, reporting and assessment. 
  • Maintain strong relationships with high school administrative staff in assigned territory.
  • Advise prospective students through the admission process from the inquiry stage through the admitted stage – including the initial Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and TJC scholarship opportunities. 
  • Communicate consistently and effectively with prospective students and their families in person and via phone, email, text messaging, printed media, and the internet. 
  • Conduct presentations on the college experience, value of higher education and the admissions process at TJC.
  • Represent the College at career fairs, professional conferences and trade shows. 
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues in financial aid, advising, registrar and other campus offices to ensure a consistent and smooth transition from applicant to student. 
  • Maintain a detailed knowledge of degree and certificate programs, including requirements, curriculum, policies and procedures, student and faculty accomplishments and general knowledge about TJC. 
  • Handle confidential information with tact, discretion and in compliance with FERPA regulations. 
  • Assist with events as needed (preview day, orientation, awards ceremonies).
  • Assist with on-campus individual and group tours as needed. 
  • Represent TJC in the most positive manner with prospective, former and current students, and the community we serve.

If travel is required, candidate must have and maintain a current valid Texas driver’s license and an acceptable driving record

 

WHO YOU ARE

 

Required Education

Associate’s Degree in a related field

Preferred Education/Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English.
  • Two years of customer service experience. 
  • Admissions experience and/or experience working with students on a university or college campus as an orientation or peer advisor, resident assistant, student ambassador, or with other student service-oriented departments or organizations. 
  • Demonstrated knowledge of financial aid deadlines and experience informing students and parents of awards and programs available.
