
Local Government Intern
POSITION SUMMARY: This internship provides students with hands-on experience in local government operations. Interns will rotate across departments, assist with projects, and gain insight into administration, communications, planning, and community development while contributing to real-world municipal services. Opportunity to combine learning new skills and serving the public in a paid internship. Academic credit is supported but dependent on eligibility at the intern’s academic institution.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
• Perform customer service for residents, businesses, and partner government agencies
• Assists with entries of data, spreadsheets, invoices, receipts, and reconciliations (Administration)
• Research and report on topics ranging from Town history and reforestation to drainage and development trends.
• Help document program project plans, P&Z meeting minutes, coordinate events, and schedule required vendors (Community Development)
• Attend special events, take photos or videos, document and summarize on social media posts (Communications)
• Assists on special projects, preparation of materials, analysis of findings, and presentation of findings to staff and other community members
• Attend staff meetings and provide status reports as required
• Assists in travel planning
• Maintains a professional image and appearance, as indicated by various situations and events requiring interaction with the public and with Town departments
• Supports Town Hall functions such as Council Meetings, Civic Club Meetings, and similar by arranging hospitality including table set up, catering arrangements, and meeting clean up.
• Maintains regular and punctual on-site attendance
