Communications Intern
Intern Program Summary:
This program is designed to offer opportunities to applicants looking for part time employment that provides real work experience in their field of interest and a broad understanding of intercompany processes.
There are four internship tiers available, each with a different level of responsibility and corresponding pay scale. Interns will have the opportunity to reapply for the next tier level or existing tier level each year based on their performance, interests and educational commitments. Interns must be recommended for the next tier or same tier by their Manager and Sponsor in order to reapply.
Intern Position Summary:
The Intern provides support to select departments and business leaders, performing a variety of administrative duties, technical duties, and assisting with special projects. This role will have a core functional focus but will be cross-trained to support multiple departments with clerical needs and projects depending on business demands. The job duties and functions fluctuate with activities in the field. This position is “temporary/variable” in that there should be no expectation of hours, or a certain volume of hours, or a duration of employment (i.e., the job may end) in proportion to the volume of work available.

Core Duties and Responsibilities:

Communications Focus (Scalable by Active Job Volume)
- Publication Calendar
- Support the preparation and coordination of campaigns and publications to promote company accomplishments, services, culture, and values.
- Frequency and volume of publications (e.g., Employee Spotlights, Job Success Blogs, Leadership Blog, Monthly Birthdays and Service Anniversaries) scale based on the number of active jobsites.
- Weekly coordination of business communications ensures appropriate timing and content spread, adjusted to reflect jobsite activity levels.
- Content Writing
- Prepare draft articles for the company blog on a bi-weekly or as-needed basis, flexing with the volume of field operations.
- Coordinate with stakeholders and subject matter experts for article approvals, with demand increasing when jobsite activity is high.
- Contact external stakeholders for quotations/information proportionate to project activity.
- Draft presentations, scripts, and other communication mediums scaled to the number of projects.
- Company Website and Social Media
- Conduct monthly audits/updates of websites for media, information, and forms, with intensity of updates tied to field activity.
- Monitor and distribute website contact forms, with higher responsiveness during peak project activity.
- Oversee distribution and administration of social media platforms, scaling frequency of posts, tracking metrics, and implementing growth strategies relative to jobsite volume.
- Digital Graphics
- Generate original graphics and designs (posters, artwork, infographics, QR codes, etc.) for company initiatives. The number and frequency of deliverables flex with jobsite communications needs.
- Distribution Lists
- Provide weekly updates to all divisions/regions for company email distribution lists (updates flex to jobsite communications volume).
- Maintain updates to cell phone distribution lists, scaling in line with active jobsites.
- Assist in emergency and organization communications, with workload proportional to field activity.
- Photography and Videography
- Support shooting, editing, and producing video/photo media for safety, leadership, marketing, and events. Frequency increases during high project activity (e.g., outage season, peak construction periods).
- Maintain online storage of company photos/videos, with workload tied to project intensity.
- Troubleshoot and maintain equipment, scaling improvements and usage with active job demands.
- Coordinate storage/shipment of media equipment based on project needs.
- Branded Materials Orders and Stock
- Support ordering and distribution of branded materials and collateral on a monthly basis, with order volume tied to career fairs, trade shows, and project activity.
- Manage inventory of branded materials to support business needs that scale with jobsite count.
- Oversee shipping/collection of branding materials for events proportional to jobsite activity.
- Maintain storage area organization, scaling upkeep as materials usage rises or falls.
- Company Events
- Support preparation and execution of company events (luncheons, holiday parties, trainings, etc.), with scope and frequency aligned to the number of active projects and workforce presence.

- Organizing and maintaining files and records,
- Maintaining office supplies and equipment,
- Planning and scheduling meetings, appointments, and activities,
- Coordinating travel arrangements and preparing expense reports,
- Delivering and receiving mail,
- Requesting purchase orders and processing vendor invoices,
- Conducting research to assist with special projects,
- Preparing and editing communication materials, such as emails, letters, faxes, memorandums, etc., and
- Creating and maintaining process instructions for cross-training.
- Establish and maintain professional and positive relations with employees throughout all levels of the organization.
Required Education and/or Experience:
The required minimum education and/or experience needed to successfully perform this job include the following (considerable professional experience may substitute for educational requirements):
Education
- High School Diploma, 3.5/5.0 or 6.0 scale GPA recommended (completed or on-course for completion in next 12 months).
- Enrolled in College or comparable education/certification path, 2.5/4.0 scale GPA recommended.
Experience
- Work experience is an advantage, especially administrative experience.
