Salary Information - CalHR salary rules allow appointment at the entrance rate (Cal. Code Regs., tit. 2, § 599.673) of a classification. For classes with alternate ranges, placement is based on education/experience. Employees appointed to the Attorney or Water Resource Control Engineer classification will receive Recruitment Higher Above Minimum (HAM) rate in accordance with the approved Civil Service Pay Scales.
In addition, note: Effective July 1, 2025, the State of California implemented the Personal Leave Program 2025 (PLP 2025) which reduces an employee’s monthly salary in exchange for leave credits. Employees appointed to this classification will have their monthly salary reduced and will accrue hours of PLP 2025 on the first day of each pay period in accordance with the applicable bargaining contract. The salary range(s) included on this job posting do not reflect the reduction in pay.
The Division of Water Quality, Underground Storage Tank (UST) Leak Prevention Unit works to protect groundwater from the release of hazardous substances from USTs. The UST Leak Prevention Unit has a position as an Environmental Scientist passionate about meaningful work in groundwater protection by providing consistent guidance and training to Unified Programs and the UST community. The UST Leak Prevention Unit respects a quality work/life balance.
This position is located at 1001 I Street, Sacramento, CA 95814, two blocks from light rail and public transportation, and near the State Capitol, restaurants, and the Golden 1 Arena.
Duties:
The Environmental Scientist must possess excellent communication skills both written and verbal with a record of establishing good working relationships with peers and non-peers, ability to manage complex projects that includes working with a variety of parties and stay on schedule, working with a multidisciplinary, multi-agency professional team, and an understanding of environmental regulation.
