Full-time; 37.5 hours per week
ABA’s Internship provides students with a paid opportunity to work with one of the biggest trade associations in Washington, DC. This extremely selective opportunity provides students with the opportunity to do substantial work in various divisions across ABA, connect with leadership, build a network, and make a difference.
Primary Responsibilities
Contribute to conceptualizing and executing creative messaging and compelling content to help achieve the association’s marketing and business goals.
Draft ad & editorial copy for advocacy, membership and marketing campaigns.
Contribute article(s) or editorial services to the association’s flagship magazine, ABA Banking Journal.
Ensure quality control and brand compliance by copy editing and/or proofreading various member-facing, public-facing and internal-facing collateral and communications.
Provide cross-functional support to the entire Member Communications Department through: marketing copywriting, email newsletters such as ABA Daily Newsbytes, website content creation and publishing, speechwriting research, ABA publications/operations and other projects as assigned.
Participate in departmental meetings, team meetings, divisional meetings, all-staff meetings, project-based meetings and other ad-hoc meetings that arise.
Curate commemorative scrapbook that is presented to outgoing ABA Chair at end of their term as a thank you gift.
Required Skills
Previous experience as a published writer preferred but not required (please provide bylined links/clips/portfolio if available).
Desire to pursue a career in marketing/communications is preferred but not required.
Meticulous editing and proofreading skills as well as command of AP style.
Ability to prioritize assignments, juggle various types of work and manage multiple deadlines simultaneously.
A collaborative spirit and problem solver who puts team above self and works quickly without sacrificing precision.
Adept with office technology, including: Zoom, Microsoft Office, PowerPoint, Teams, Excel, SharePoint and other process management tools. Experience using the project management software Adobe Workfront is preferred but not required. Experience using a content management system (such as WordPress or Sitecore) is preferred but not required. Experience using a CRM (such as Salesforce Marketing Cloud) or an email marketing platform (such as rasa.io) is preferred but not required.
Interest in the financial services sector is preferred but not required.
Ability to report into ABA headquarters located in Washington, DC, at least two-times per week (relocation assistance or stipend is not included for the intern program). Internship positions are not eligible for healthcare insurance coverage.
Minimum Education Requirements
Pursuit of an undergraduate degree at a U.S. college or university in one of the following areas: journalism/communications/public relations/marketing/media studies (or similar).
