KRGV-TV5 in Weslaco, Texas has the following vacancy: Assistant News Director
KRGV-TV in the beautiful Rio Grande Valley of South Texas is currently seeking an Assistant News Director with strong leadership skills and a clear understanding of on-air and digital platforms. Working closely with the News Director, the Assistant News Director will be responsible for the day-to-day running of the newsroom along with the Assignment Editor and Executive Producers. Candidates for the position should be willing to learn or possess a broad and working knowledge of the viewing area, including the people, places, things, and history. Another important skill is mentoring producers, reporters and photographers daily by setting goals and encouraging them through the story process all the way to the newscast and promote active live shots. He or she must be able to give quick and positive feedback, as well as hold people accountable for goals set by management.
He or she should be able to produce newscasts (if necessary) and fill-in when needed. Candidate must have flexibility to work any shift, including nights, weekends and holidays

This is a Full Time position.
Responsibilities:
• Oversee the station’s news staff with News Director and Executive Producers
• Work closely with station's News Director to develop goals and strategies
• Initiating, managing, and growing content delivery on multiple platforms
• Train, develop, and coach producers, reporters and photographers
• Review daily newscasts to provide feedback to news staff
• Direct newsroom operations, review scripts and manage schedules
• Help News Director recruit and hire news department personnel
• Help facilitate the transfer of video to outside sources as needed
Qualifications
• Must have a working knowledge of journalistic ethics, libel, and privacy laws
• Strong computer literacy and the ability to learn new software and programs
• Ability to handle breaking news situations and changing events
• Strong planning and organizational skills
• Journalism degree or equivalent
•Advanced oral and written communication skills
•Bilingual in English and Spanish helpful but not required
