We understand that these individuals encounter substantial obstacles, including limited access to housing, employment, education, and supportive networks. Job Summary:
The Communications & Volunteer Engagement Intern will play an essential role in supporting Brookside’s mission by helping share our story, engage volunteers, and build community awareness. This position focuses on social media content creation, video storytelling, and assisting with volunteer coordination and outreach events.
Reports To: Development Director
Hours/Pay: Paid Internship $12/hr, 10 to 15hrs/week
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Social Media & Communications
- Develop and schedule social media posts that highlight programs, events, and volunteer opportunities.
- Capture and edit short-form videos and photos to showcase our impact and share success stories.
- Assist with creating digital and print content (flyers, graphics, etc.) using Canva or similar tools.
- Support promotion of special events, fundraisers, and outreach activities.
Volunteer & Event Support
- Communicate with volunteers about schedules, updates, and events.
- Assist in organizing volunteer appreciation activities and special events.
- Support the planning and execution of outreach events and fundraising activities.
Outreach & Relationship Building
- Represent Brookside at volunteer fairs or community events (as available).
- Help maintain positive relationships with volunteers and community partners.
- Collect photos, stories, and feedback from events to support recognition and future engagement.
Administrative Support
- Assist with grant reporting, including gathering data, collecting impact stories, and organizing documentation.
- Maintain and update internal communications and organizational files, ensuring easy access for the team.
Job Qualifications — Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Currently enrolled in a college or university program (Communications, Marketing, Nonprofit Management, or related field preferred).
- Familiarity with social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, TikTok).
- Basic video editing and graphic design skills (Canva, Adobe tools, or similar).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Creative thinker who enjoys storytelling and community engagement.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Flexible and willing to support occasional evening/weekend events.
