COORDINATOR OF STUDENT SERVICES

DEFINITION
Under the general direction of the Director of Pupil Services, plan, organize, coordinate, and oversee Pupil Services programs and services to support student participation in educational programs.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
- Plan, organize and implement Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) for school aged populations in the educational setting.
- Collaborate with teachers, education staff, and administrative teams on Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) strategies in the classroom.
- Coordinate, support and provide staff development for Counselors in their requirement to meet federal mandates for Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act.
- Serve as district and County Liaison for Foster Youth, Homeless Students, and Child Welfare Services.
- Oversee the student expulsion process and serve as the Superintendent’s Designee.
- Provide ongoing guidance to school site leaders regarding District policies, legal compliance, and best practices.
- Oversee and support the Health Services department, including working directly with District Nurse and School Site Health Techs to assure compliance with health mandates and fulfilling Health Services needs.
- Support district and site Mental Health & Wellness initiatives.
- Oversee development of and compliance with site safety plans, safety drills, and crisis response. Support the Safety Consultant in assuring that safety needs are met.
- Support sites with attendance concerns (SART, SARB). Monitor student attendance trends and direct interventions for chronic absenteeism.
- Advise and support principals and education teams regarding complex cases and service delivery in alternative educational settings.
- Assist sites in interpreting court orders, consultation over CWS calls and services, and filling student services record requests.
- Remain current regarding applicable laws, procedures and current practices.
- Participate in SDCOE training and committees, such as Pupil Services Administrators (PSA Meetings), staff development and CUSD Instructional Services’ meetings.
- Co-Coordinate and supervise the Extended School Year program.
- Consult with school personnel to promote a positive school environment responsive to the needs of students, confer with teachers and administrators on student discipline issues and significant behavior issues; coordinate school-based and community-based interventions and resources for students at highest risk for social or academic failure.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
KNOWLEDGE OF:
Intellectual, sensory, and physical development of children; Techniques used in the assessment and treatment of disabilities; Educational and developmental needs of children with specific disabilities and applicable treatment modalities; Multi-tiered System of Supports (MTSS), the comprehensive framework that focuses on CCSS, core instruction, differentiated learning, student-centered learning, individualized student needs, and the alignment of systems necessary for all students’ academic, behavioral, and social success; Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS), the essential aspects of implementing and maintaining systemic approaches in multi-tiered systems of support that address school-wide behavioral issues; Federal and state regulations, best practices.
ABILITY TO:
Plan, organize, and oversee a range of services for children in specialized programs or requiring unique support in a variety of settings; Work collaboratively in multi-disciplinary teams; Communicate effectively and work independently; Establish and maintain effective relationships with those contracted in the course of work; Comply with the District’s customer service standards, as outlined in Board Policy.
While the ideal candidate will possess all these abilities, duties assigned can be modified to accommodate some physical restrictions
Experience/Education:
- Minimum of three years of leadership experience as a site administrator or working with children in specialized programs in a variety of settings, including school, home, and clinics.
- Experience working as a member of a multidisciplinary team, including working collaboratively with families, 504 teams, SARB Teams, and other stakeholders;
- Administrative Services Credential
