Position Summary:
The Rock School for Dance Education Residence Manager cares for and supervises the residential students, assuring their safety and developmental well-being while overseeing the daily operations in the dormitory at the Marine Club Condominium, located adjacent to our Philadelphia campus.
Under the supervision of the Chief Education and Student Life Officer, the Residence Manager serves as a leader in student life, fostering a healthy, supportive, and vibrant residential experience. The role plays a key part in building community by overseeing student conduct, supervising resident assistants, organizing student events and outings, and maintaining facility standards.
This is a full-year, live-in position that includes the added benefits of on-site housing and cafeteria meals as part of the compensation package. The role requires availability during evenings, weekends, and overnight hours as part of residential supervision.
Key Responsibilities:
Student Life & Supervision
- Foster a safe, inclusive, and supportive living environment for students in our year-round program and our summer intensive program
- Supervise student behavior, social interactions, and activities
- Serve as a visible and accessible presence in the dorms, including desk shifts
- Assign dorm rooms and roommates
- Facilitate student outings in Philadelphia and the surrounding areas
- Lead and participate in student meetings and wellness check-ins
- Implement the student check-in and check-out periods throughout the school year and summer
Facility Oversight
- Report, track, and catalog maintenance issues in coordination with building staff
- Conduct regular room inspections and ensure compliance with cleanliness and safety standards in rooms and common areas with student cleaning routines
- Oversee and report on procedures for all move-in and move-out inspections
- Monitor the condition of furnishings and amenities; assess and assign repair or replacement charges if needed
Team Leadership
- Help train and supervise student resident assistants (school year and summer)
- Help plan weekly resident manager and assistant staff schedules
- Attend staff meetings (in person or via Zoom)
- Communicate critical incidents or concerns immediately to the school’s leadership
- Respond to and proactively communicate with parents in a timely and professional manner
- Work collaboratively with the Lead Resident Manager, Operations, Student Life, and other departments to address student needs
Event & Meal Coordination
- Organize and lead birthday celebrations, holiday events, and special community-building activities
- Help the school chef in coordinating weekend meals (brunch and dinner)
- Complete light food prep, setup, and cleanup following proper sanitation procedures, including occasionally ordering delivery meals
- Maintain upkeep of dorm kitchen and dining supplies (plates, utensils, beverages, snacks, etc.)
Additional Duties
- Encourage conflict resolution among roommates and uphold behavioral expectations
- Perform three Academic Support hours weekly
- Assist in facilitating one holiday or special event
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements:
Position Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or a minimum of 4 years equivalent professional experience
- 2 to 3 years of prior experience working with teenagers, particularly in a residential or educational setting, with references
- Supervisory or management experience with teenagers
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills: ability to document, digitize, and reference responsibilities and incidents in a timely manner
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and respond effectively in high-pressure situations
- Self-motivated with excellent attention to detail and accountability
- Ability to enforce policies and set firm yet supportive boundaries with students
- Comfortable leading a team and collaborating with colleagues across departments
- Must be available to work evenings, weekends, and overnight shifts as required in a residential setting
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with health, safety, and compliance practices in residential settings
- Training in conflict resolution, crisis response, or adolescent development
- Experience supporting international students and/or working in a multicultural environment
- Strong skills in event planning or community-building programming
- CPR, First Aid, or other emergency response certifications
Background Check Requirement
Employment is contingent upon successful completion of the following clearances, as required in Pennsylvania for individuals working with minors:
- Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance (Act 151)
- Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Record Check (Act 34)
- FBI Criminal Background Check, including fingerprinting (Act 114)
Compensation & Benefits
Salary: $30,000–$35,000 per annum
Housing: Private on-site apartment at dorm (estimated $18,000–$22,000 annual value, including utilities and internet)
Meals: Cafeteria meals provided seasonally (approx. $4,800–$7,000 annual value)
