Collaborate Lab Coordinator

Overview:  
 State Fair Community College serves more than 5,000 students each year, offering high-quality, affordable, and accessible education to learners of all ages, from recent high school graduates to working adults. The college provides a wide range of academic pathways, including Associate of Arts, Fine Arts, Science, and Applied Science degrees; professional and skills certificates; noncredit courses; and workforce development training. With a 14-county service area in central Missouri, SFCC offers classes at locations in Sedalia, Boonville, Clinton, Eldon, Lake of the Ozarks, Jefferson City, Whiteman Air Force Base, and online.

State Fair Community College is seeking a Collaborate Lab & Outreach Coordinator to lead innovative programming, outreach, and community engagement. This position is responsible for planning, implementing, promoting, and evaluating programs for patrons of all ages in the Collaborate Lab; coordinating activities on campus, in schools, and throughout the community to enhance the visibility of the Collaborate Lab and SFCC’s technical education opportunities; and delivering industry-driven programming that supports the economic development of manufacturers, entrepreneurs, and inventors. The Coordinator will also oversee machine programming and operation, ensure lab safety, supervise student and community projects, provide technical assistance, and support students working in the lab. Evening and weekend hours may be required. 

 

 

Essential Duties:

  • Lead and foster collaboration with students, faculty, staff, schools, community partners, and industry to expand use of the Lab through innovative STEAM-based events, hands-on activities, and industry-aligned learning experiences.
  • Provide training, guidance, and technical support to faculty, students, and community participants on projects, safe work practices, and proper material and equipment selection and use in the lab.
  • Oversee daily operations of the Lab, including safety protocols, inventory management, record keeping, and reporting.
  • Promote programs and training opportunities in partnership with SFCC departments using a variety of channels such as flyers, booklets, the college website, and social media.
  • Manage lab logistics, including scheduling staff, booking presenters/trainers, organizing and maintaining equipment and supplies, setting up and breaking down materials, ensuring proper equipment maintenance, and creating a clean, welcoming environment.
  • Develop and implement recruitment efforts and coordinate experiential learning opportunities for visitors.
  • Represent SFCC Technical Education programs at college fairs, high school and career and technical school events, and community events.
  • Stay current and innovative, maintaining advanced knowledge of Lab tools, materials, and processes, as well as emerging trends in science, industry, and inquiry-based learning, while continuously enhancing programs.

Minimum Qualifications:
 Required Education and Experience:  

Associate's degree in marketing, business, communication or related field required

Minimum three (3) years' experience in project management, business start-up, or entrepreneurial training and development

Experience working in a team environment

 Skills:

Proven skill and knowledge of two or more of the following technologies: laser cutting and engraving, 3D printing and scanning, digital design software, CNC fabrication, wood working, printmaking, digital and traditional fabrication, or other related technologies.

Familiar with Design Software (AutoCAD, TinkerCAD, Inventor, Solidworks, Fusion360, Photoshop).

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint.

Ability to think outside the box and plan creative, fun learning activities, work collaboratively, proactively accomplish organizational goals, communicate clearly, and manage conflict within a setting that includes a wide array of individuals, groups, policies and processes.

Ability to manage multiple priorities in conjunction with day-to-day activities, detail oriented, highly organized, accurate, meet established deadlines, and provide excellent customer service.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to interact verbally in person, over the telephone, and via written and electronic media.

Ability to move about campus and other locations.

Ability to sit or stand for prolonged periods of time.
