Rooms Division Internship

REPORTS TO: Director of Rooms, Front Office Manager, Assistant Front Office Managers, Executive Housekeeping, & Chef Concierge 
 

 
 

POSITION SUMMARY:
 

To prepare and develop leaders, The Greenbrier Resort internship program provides the structure and resources to harness, teach, and grow talented Interns/Students into successful career professionals that will carry on The Greenbrier culture of inspiring passion and excitement to one another so we can serve with excellence and in turn will make our jobs the envy of the world.
 

All internships will consist of hands-on work, observations, special projects, leadership development, training, feedback, and evaluations. Interns/Students will have the opportunity to form connections with both their peers and industry leaders who are in roles in both their own department and other areas within The Greenbrier Resort. This will assist with our Owners Mission that states, “We will increase the value of The Greenbrier by being financially responsible while driving profitability and sustainability through continuous improvements.” This will also lead into providing our guests with the highest level of guest service while creating a positive work environment for our fellow team members.
 

The Greenbrier Resort internship program will be a four-month experience working in areas which relate to guest engagement & service. These functions may include but are not limited to various areas including Front Desk, Concierge, Front of House Operations, & Housekeeping.
 

You will have the opportunity to be a part of Site & Planning Visits with groups, Pre-Conference meetings, Budgeting, scheduling, payroll, along with additional leadership skills while engaging with our team. Further, the Intern/Student will attend management meetings and trainings provided by the management team at the Resort. Experience in various areas of the resort expands the student's understanding of the hospitality industry. The Intern/Student is required to stay the entire time unless there are conflicts with their school's class schedule. Intern/Student will work 40 hours a week. Each Intern/Student will be required to complete a major project either by themselves or with other group members that meet the requirements of their college, meets the expectations of the Intern/Student, and what benefits The Greenbrier. Each Intern/Student will complete training within Activities Department. Interns/Students who successfully complete their internship may have an opportunity to join The Greenbrier as a full time Team Member if the opening presents itself.

REQUIREMENTS:

All Intern/Student must be doing the internship for credit and must have an academic advisor at the time of the internship. The Greenbrier is interested in Interns/Students from many different backgrounds and majors.
Housing is available close to the resort within walking and driving distance.

 
 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
 

Student pursuing a degree in Hospitality Management, Communications, Business, Event Management, Sports and Recreation Management, or other relevant area of study.

Communication Skills Requirements: (Verbal: phone, in-person, group; Written: memos, documents)
 

·         Ability to communicate professionally over the phone, in person and through written contact
 

·         Conflict resolution management
 

 
 

Technical Requirements:        
 

·         Familiar with Opera or similar hotel systems
 

·         Working knowledge of computer programs such as:  Microsoft word, Excel, Outlook, etc.
