Outreach Intern

The outreach intern will support the marketing and outreach efforts of the Community Engagement Director. By assisting with social media implementation, providing on-the-ground community outreach and working closely with their supervisor to enhance YWCA Duluth’s digital marketing reach, the ideal intern will be interested in communications, marketing and nonprofit mobilization. YWCA Duluth is also hoping to include a formal mentorship opportunity with a local woman leader as part of each internship. This offering is still in development.
 

Activities will depend on the timeframe of the internship, of which there are three:
● January - May
● June - August
● September - December
 

Full year or partial year internships are an option. The intern will work both independently and as a part of the YWCA Duluth Team. The perfect candidate would intern a minimum of 10 hours a week, working in the Building for Women office located at 32 E. 1st Street as well as spending part of their time doing outreach in the community, with time off for breaks and holidays. The schedule is negotiable and will be decided by the intern and supervisor collaboratively. Weekend and evening work is expected from time to time to help manage events and outreach. The ideal candidate will have access to a vehicle to support outreach events set up and flyer disbursement.
 

Position Duties:
Social Media
● Create social content for Instagram, Facebook and LinkedIN using YWCA USA templates
● Create weekly TikTok posts to showcase intern experience and connect to initiatives and
organizational values
● Commitment to understanding and implementing social media 

● Weekly Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIN and TikTok engagement
Community Outreach
● Distribute flyers throughout Duluth
● Help manage and attend tabling events to connect to community and uplift our organization
● Take vibrant photos at events, meetings, etc. to capture imagery to use on our digital platforms
Digital Marketing/Mobilization
● Assist with structuring e-newsletters using Constant Contact
● Assist with Google Ad and social media ad creation
● Input information into Little Green Light (our Customer Relationship Management tool) and assist in segmentation of our contacts
Other
● Attend staff meetings and retreats
● Attend weekly intern meetings with supervisor
● Attend Second Annual Persimmon Powerbrunch, tentatively planned for the second week of February. This is an expectation for all 2026 interns, no matter when the internship is planned for within the year.
● Support YWCA Duluth events which may require work in the evenings or weekends
● Use Google Drive to keep content organized
● Participate in formal mentorship opportunity should it be available
 

Supervisor: Community Engagement Director
Collaborators: Strategic Advisor and Executive Director
Compensation: $400 paid at the end of each month with additional funds made available for planned hours , mileage, flexible schedule.
Learning Opportunities: Marketing tools and analytics, outreach strategies, organizational and program development, nonprofit mobilization tools, digital and print content development
