ASSOCIATE PASTOR
JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Summary:
This Associate Pastor position will develop leaders and overall processes to fulfill our church mission including oversight of our congregational gatherings. Specifically, this individual will cultivate an environment that forms our people according to Wellspring values on a consistent and engaging basis. This role will also require developing systems that enhance worship and prayer experiences and other opportunities to help Wellspring Alliance grow in discipleship. The individual will serve alongside other Associate Pastors and be part of a collaborative pastoral team.
Reports to: Senior Pastor
Terms and Conditions: Full-time with exempt status
Supervisory Responsibilities: Director of Worship, volunteers and leaders for prayer and Equip classes.
Essential Duties:
1. Cultivate an environment that forms our body in Christ to glorify him everywhere
a. Develop a system to deliver high quality, consistent worship services and prayer services that lead people to a deeper level with Jesus Christ.
b. Create an environment for worship and prayer services that supports our core values.
c. Coordinate the worship team, the AV team, teams for the sacraments and the pastoral staff for all worship and prayer services.
d. Oversee appropriate communications for worship services and events.
2. Identify and ensure we have trained emerging leaders for the worship teams, AV teams, prayer teams and Equip classes.
a. Identify emerging leaders who are faithful, available and teachable and disciple them.
b. Assist in training emerging leaders to understand the expectations and how they can use their giftedness.
c. Provide encouragement and motivation for leaders to have opportunities to be discipled and grow.
d. Create opportunities for the various teams to build relationships among the members.
3. Collaborate with Pastoral staff, office staff and committee/team chairs to create a cohesive and aligned leadership team that supports and challenges one another for the good of the church.
a. Fully participate in Pastoral staff meetings.
b. Fully participate in Staff meetings and ensure staff is aligned with processes and systems.
c. Build collaborative relationships with staff members in order to work effectively as a team.
d. Develop relationships with the various committee/team chairs in order to understand the work they are doing and how their work fits into the overall church.
e. Occasional preaching opportunities in worship services.
4. Provide hands-on guidance for some church operations.
a. Develop the church calendar with key dates.
b. Drive the Core Values Process including launching the Values Template (assigned to the values champion), launching the semi-annual leadership questionnaire, and completing the executive summary based on the questionnaire.
c. Assist the Staff with seasonal planning for special events.
d. Other operational areas may be assigned.
5. Champion assigned Core Values
a. Establish yourself as the expert on the assigned values and what it means for our church.
b. Complete the Values Template when the value/s are the focus for the upcoming season.
c. Encourage maintenance of the value while other values may be in focus.
d. Work with Pastoral Staff to raise the level of all Core Values and support one another.
Qualifications:
Statement of faith: Must be willing and able to sign the Wellspring Alliance Church Statement of Faith
Demonstrated spiritual maturity to take a leadership role in the life of the church
Ability to lead volunteers to understand a shared vision and execute on that vision
Ability to organize, implement, and follow-through on plans designed to support the vision of worship and prayer ministries.
Ability to build relationships with volunteers and provide encouragement in their spiritual development
Experience with and passion for developing systems within the church to live our Mission and Core Values.
Handle administrative details as needed, including staying within budget guidelines
Demonstrated personal qualities include being a critical and strategic thinker; goal oriented; proactive in your approach to work; creative in your thinking.
Is ordained with the C&MA, working towards that end, or is willing to begin that process and see it through to completion within a reasonable length of time
College degree required. Additional studies in ministry discipline would be a plus
