We are seeking a highly organized and proactive Associate Director of Facilities to support both the strategic and day-to-day operations of our organization’s buildings and grounds. This role works closely with the Facilities Director to ensure that all facilities are safe, efficient, and welcoming for staff, volunteers, and the community we serve. The Associate Director will combine hands-on problem solving with leadership in project management, vendor relations, compliance, and budgeting.

Summary:
Hesed House is a faith-based organization serving the homeless and vulnerable, and a national model for ending homelessness with our Comprehensive Resource Center, shelter programs, supportive housing, and more. Our programs serve an average of 1000+ individuals per year. We are open to serve 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Our shelters offer meals, clothing, sleeping accommodations, showers and laundry facilities to people in need. In addition, through our case managers, guests have access to general counseling, substance abuse counseling, medical services, legal services, job coaching, rehousing services, and more. Our vision is to end homelessness – one person, one family at a time.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist the Facilities Director with daily operations and long-term facilities planning.
- Supervise and coordinate maintenance staff, volunteers, and outside service providers.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local codes, safety regulations, ADA, OSHA, and environmental standards.
- Oversee vendor contracts, negotiate service agreements, and monitor performance.
- Develop scopes of work, operating manuals, and preventive maintenance plans.
- Support renovation, construction, and infrastructure projects.
- Assist with creating and managing budgets, track expenses, and implement cost-saving measures.
- Monitor energy use and recommend sustainability improvements.
- Respond to facility-related emergencies and troubleshoot issues promptly.
- Maintain accurate records of inspections, maintenance schedules, and work orders.
- Promote a culture of safety, service, and continuous improvement.
- Oversee lawn care and snow removal through staff, vendors, or direct work as needed.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of progressive experience in facilities operations or building management, including 2+ years in a supervisory or leadership role.
- General knowledge of building systems (HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire/life safety, security, etc.).
- Ability to interpret blueprints, construction documents, and technical manuals.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite; experience with Slack or other collaboration tools.
- Strong organizational, project management, and communication skills.
- Working knowledge of OSHA, ADA, and other regulatory requirements.
- Ability to operate hand and power tools and small equipment.
- Availability for after-hours emergencies and on-call rotation.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Facilities Management, Engineering, Business Administration, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- Strong hands-on problem-solving skills.
- Forklift operation experience.
- AutoCAD or similar software knowledge.
- Bilingual in Spanish a plus.
- Strong interpersonal and customer service skills, with the ability to build positive relationships across diverse teams.
Working Conditions
- Primarily a hands-on role with some administrative responsibilities.
- Requires physical ability to walk, stand, sit, climb ladders, and lift up to 50 lbs.
- Occasional evening, weekend, or emergency response required.
