Communications Intern

Iowa International Center is a non-profit organization that exists to build cultural respect at home and around the world, one person at a time. Each year the Iowa International Center works with over 200 international visitors from more than 60 countries. Other programs include interpretation and translation services, international events, and dialogues. More information is available at www.iowainternationalcenter.org.

 

Iowa International Center is seeking a Communications Intern to work in-person at our Des Moines office for 8-12 hours per week, working on on content creation, social media, and community events for our organization. In this role, you will partner with our team to develop a social media plan and tell the stories of the many international visitors, interpretation and translation clients, and local volunteers that pass through our doors. 

 

Qualifications:

• College student or recent graduate 
• Background in any of the following (but not limited to): international relations, international business, non-profit management, political science, foreign language, marketing
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including strong interpersonal skills 
• Ability to be self-directed and work independently while also working as part of a team
• Ability to handle multiple tasks, set priorities and deadlines, and maintain accurate records
• Problem solving skills, including the ability to resolve conflicts and recommend an appropriate course of action
• Experience with Canva, VerticalResponse, and Meta Business Suite a plus
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office software (Excel required); knowledge of databases a plus (Salesforce)
