This is an executive position (no union affiliation) and serves at the pleasure of the Mayor of the Municipality of Anchorage.


 

DEPARTMENT: Port of Alaska
HOURS OF WORK: Monday to Friday, 08:00 to 17:00
LOCATION: 2000 Anchorage Port Road

Example of Duties

The Port Director is the chief administrator for the Port of Alaska, responsible for the safe, efficient, and profitable operation of the Port in accordance with Title XI of the Municipal Code ensuring effective operation of the Port and the highest and best use of Port facilities and land, maximizing cost-effectiveness and productivity within budgetary constraints and limitations. Takes operational and administrative direction from the Municipal Manager and policy direction from the Mayor. Perform other duties as assigned.
 

Minimum Qualifications / Substitutions / Preferences

Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Logistics, or similar discipline, and ten (10) years of experience in Maritime Cargo Operations, logistics support, contracting, and/or transportation, at least two (2) of which were in a management capacity.

OR

Master’s degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Logistics, or similar discipline, and eight (8) years of experience in Maritime Cargo Operations, logistics support, contracting, and/or transportation, at least two (2) of which were in a management capacity.

Must possess and/or obtain:
 

  • Satisfactory background check which includes criminal, education, and employment history at time of hire.
  • Valid State of Alaska Driver’s License with satisfactory driving record at time of hire.
