
Substitute Culinary Arts Instructor - After-School Program (Oakland, CA)
Part-Time | Contract
Schedule: 3-4 hours/ week (as needed), Fall after-school (between 12 PM and 5 PM)
Pay: $35.00 - $40.00 per hour

Job Summary
We are looking for a dependable and energetic Substitute Culinary Arts Lead Instructor to teach after-school cooking classes for elementary students when the regular instructor is not available. This role offers the opportunity to blend hands-on cooking with creative learning in a safe and engaging environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and teach fun, age-appropriate cooking lessons that introduce basic skills such as measuring, mixing, and kitchen safety.
- Guide students step by step through recipes, offering support and encouragement.
- Foster teamwork, confidence, and independence through group activities.
- Prepare ingredients and equipment prior to class and oversee cleanup afterward.
- Ensure all health, safety, and food-handling guidelines are followed.
- Take attendance and share timely updates with site coordinators.
Qualifications
- Experience working with children, ideally in culinary, nutrition, or enrichment programs.
- Knowledge of kitchen tools, food preparation, and safe cooking practices.
- Strong classroom management and communication skills.
- Patient, creative, and enthusiastic about teaching young learners.
- Reliable and committed to maintaining a structured, student-focused environment.
Compensation
- Competitive hourly instruction rate (based on experience).
- Additional pay available for lesson planning (for select instructors).
