Communications & Marketing Associate

Description

The Communications & Marketing Associate is responsible for writing targeted messaging for our various audiences (e.g., students, university faculty, study abroad office administrators, etc.), as well as the creation and management of email assets. This role works closely with marketing colleagues to craft effective deliverables and maximize marketing and communications engagement goals across our online platforms and print materials.

 

Department: Enrollment & Engagement 

Status: Full-time, salaried, exempt 

Location: Washington, DC preferred; remote option available for the right candidate. (If based in DC, employees follow a hybrid schedule of 2 days in office / 3 days remote.

Supervisor: Assistant Director, Marketing

Anticipated Start Date: Mid-November 2025 

Salary: Starting at $62,000, commensurate with experience

What you’ll do…

Communications & Marketing Associate responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

 

Copywriting and Program Marketing

  • Deliver and support high-quality, creative messaging content for print and digital projects (e.g., emails, website content, social media, print materials, etc.), ensuring consistency across platforms  
  • Write persuasive and effective copy while wielding expert-level grammar skills, following industry best practices, and maintaining CET’s brand and style guidelines 
  • Create engaging narratives with strong calls to action through knowledge of content creation best practices for multiple channels and audiences
  • Exercise an eye for design by balancing written copy with design layouts and other visual components  
  • Generate and execute content ideas aligned with enrollment goals 
  • Provide copyediting and feedback to colleagues as needed 
  • Advise marketing team on emerging digital, media, and communications trends and changes 

Email Communications

  • Work with assistant director of marketing to design and implement a comprehensive communications and marketing strategy in alignment with team, department, and organization-wide goals 
  • Manage email production calendar and schedules 
  • Identify target audiences and manage the timing, frequency, cadence and unique opportunities for various segments 
  • Write copy for, build, test, and send emails (e.g., automated marketing campaigns, list emails, etc.) to our various audiences  
  • Design effective and visually engaging email templates for use among marketing and other teams across CET 
  • Measure and report performance of email marketing efforts, assess against goals, and suggest improvements 
  • Plan, execute, and measure experiments, A/B tests, and conversion tests  
  • Identify patterns, trends and insights from our email data and develop recommendations based on those insights 
  • Monitor email list health, bounce rates, and unsubscribe trends 

General Marketing Support

  • Review program evaluations and other internal assessments to gauge success of marketing efforts and mine for student quotes and other email content 
  • Collaborate with the marketing team on other campaigns and marketing initiatives 
  • Provide communications support to other teams at CET as needed 

Requirements

We’re looking for…

  • Bachelor’s degree, in any discipline 
  • 3 to 5 years of professional experience in communications or marketing 
  • A creative storyteller with excellent written and verbal communication skills 
  • Strong copyediting skills and aptitude for giving and receiving constructive feedback 
  • Willingness to accommodate busy season schedules 
  • Study abroad experience (preferred but not required) 
  • Comfort learning new systems and working with multiple concurrently to ensure the accuracy of information across the board 
  • Systems used by this position include Office 365, CRM, CMS, email marketing software 
  • Superior organization skills and attention to detail 
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and see projects through from beginning to end, both in with your team and across departments  
  • A collaborative, communicative, and creative team spirit 
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to manage conflicting priorities 
  • Sensitivity to tone, climate, and cultural differences 
  • Patience, flexibility, positive attitude, and a sense of humor
