Under supervision, analyze data using statistical techniques; manage large data sets; prepare statistical reports, charts and tables related to vital statistics and other public health statistics; provide data linkages - linking Vital Statistics data with other data; provide data related support for Vital Statistics IT systems.

 

Using statistical applications Statistical Analysis System (SAS and R) provides data and analysis by request to customers. Provides data linkages. Prepares statistical reports, charts and tables. Provides Quality Assurance (QA) and Quality Control (QC) of SCAN modules to update data and resolve issues. Assists Vital Statistics staff with data related needs. Provides QA and QC for Vital Statistics annual publications. Monitors Vital Statistics data sets to enforce data quality standards.

 

Minimum and Additional Requirements

 

State Minimum Requirements: A bachelor's degree with statistical courses and experience in statistics.

Institutions of Higher Learning must be recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.

Agency Additional Requirements: A bachelor’s degree in statistics or computer science with three (3) years of experience using SAS/Base SAS/Macro and/or SAS/SQL programming. At least five (5) years' experience using Microsoft Suite products including Word and Excel. Knowledge of health-related data analysis; knowledge of statistical methods and SAS programming. Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with customers, co-workers, and others. Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing.

Preferred Qualifications

 

A bachelor’s degree in Biostatistics, Statistics, or Computer Science with minimum two (2) years of programming experience. Experience in developing algorithms; programming in Structured Query Language (SQL); and manipulation and analysis of large data sets. Master’s degree in statistics or computer science and experience with Statistical Analysis System  (SAS) in a healthcare field. Experience in excel Visual Basic Applications (VBA).

DRIVING RECORD: If this position requires the applicant to possess a valid driver’s license to operate a state vehicle or personal vehicle, any applicant, being considered in the final stages of selection for the position will be required to provide a certified copy of a 10-year driving record.
