Postdoctoral Scholar - Dr. Erbay

The Division of Cardiology in the Department of Medicine at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA invites applications for a position at the level of Postdoctoral Fellow in the laboratory of Dr. Ebru Erbay. Dr. Erbay’s Laboratory aims to transform the molecular understanding and treatment of cardiometabolic diseases and aging through innovative research and collaborative efforts.

There are several projects focused on in  chronic and complex diseases associated with obesity, hyperlipidemia and aging available for a motivated researcher:

  1. Metbolic dysregulation of epigenome in Cardiometabolic Syndrome: This project is focused on understanding metabolic regulation of key epigenetic players known to contribute to to cardiometabolic disease development and progression. The project will use in vitro and appropriate combination of genetic and diet mouse models of hyperlipidemia to assess atherosclerotic plaque and fatty liver disease progression.
  2. Hyperlipidemia- and aging-induced macrophage senescence in Cardiometabolic Syndrome: This project is focused on understanding how hyperlipidemia and aging perturbs a novel post-transcriptional regulator of lysosomal biology and senescence in macrophages  in cardiometabolic disease. The project will use in vitro and in vivo approaches.
  3. Deep learning enabled computerized imaging for cellular senescence and aging: This project is a multi-expertise collaboration that will assess the impact of age, genes, diet, and various perturbations on skin cells and skin.

Candidate will be expected to:

  • Design and conduct experimental work using state of the art technologies, both in vitro and in vivo, in the field of cardiometabolic diseases and aging.
  • Perform data analysis and interpretation of results as required.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary research collaborations.
  • Write technical documents for fellowships and grants and craft manuscripts for publication.
  • Present data in group meetings, seminars and conferences.
  • Teach or supervise junior scientists, students and technicians in the lab
  • Contribute to shared lab duties

Requirements:

  • PhD in molecular biology, cell biology, biochemistry, or relevant field.
  • Prior experience with animal experimentation
  • Excellent teamwork and interpersonal skills, as well as independent, motivated and collaborative person.
