
Non-Affiliated Student Worker (Austin, TX)-Accounting Intern
To provide skills in the receipt, disbursement and recording of revenue for the agency. Responsible for assisting in the receipt, disbursement, and accountability of state funds and for answering questions concerning permits and fees.
Schedule: up to 19 hours per week in office to be scheduled around your school schedule
Location: north Austin near I-35 and Parmer
Compensation: $16 per hour
Duration: Currently funded through 4.30.2026
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Copies incoming checks and associated paperwork for financial records
2. Verifies checks are properly made out and verifies deposit slip balance
3. Verifies document number and amounts match our list for financial record
4. Routes all backup paperwork to the appropriate divisions/fee coordinators
5. Learn to enter region deposits/receipts into revenue accounting system.
6. Performs filing and coding; transfers documents to central file room.
7. Performs other duties assigned.
Minimum Qualifications: High school graduate and must have completed 48 hours of college at an accredited institution. Applicants must be currently enrolled in college and working towards a degree in Accounting or Business.
Knowledge, skills and abilities: Solid working knowledge of TCEQ’s databases and Central Registry databases; and Microsoft Word, Excel and PCs, calculator and standard office machines. Accuracy in maintaining records, counting and balancing monies, and assembling and organizing data for use in records and reports. Follows all applicable institutional standard operating procedures. Adheres to institutional paper and electronic file management requirements.
Skills in communication both written and verbal, organization, attention to details, and work independently with little to no supervision.
Ability to move to and from work space with little other movement required using wheelchair or other aid; learn, remember, and integrate complex concepts, difficult procedures, and complicated processes; communicate verbally with clients/customers/coworkers to gather information &/or explain policies/procedures; ability to routinely record information such as draft correspondence/reports/documents/policy/procedures, prepare case narratives, or prepare other lengthy documents using handwritten or mechanical means; perform visual activities requiring prolonged attention to detail such as editing and proofreading; hear and understand speech to interact with coworkers/clients/customers on a routine or frequent basis with use of amplifying equipment/hearing aids if needed.
Working Conditions: Job functions performed indoors in usual office environment. Job activities include but not limited to sitting, standing, lifting and carrying batches of paper up to 10 lbs.
