Communications/Marketing Intern
The Office of Community, Equity, and Diversity (CED) is seeking a motivated and creative student to join our team as a Communications/Marketing intern for credit. This internship offers the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in marketing, social media management, content creation, and community engagement while contributing to the mission of fostering equity, diversity, and inclusion at URI.
This position is for 5–10 hours per week during the Fall and Spring semesters for credit. The Assistant Vice President of CED will supervise the student. This internship calls for the student to work closely with other undergraduate social media assistants and assist in overseeing projects assigned. Because this is an internship available for credit, this position is only open to URI students.
This position may be eligible for academic credit through the Center for Career & Experiential Education (CCEE) or an academic department. The majority of this internship will focus on robust, project-based, and skill-building experiences in communications and marketing. Administrative tasks will comprise no more than 30% of responsibilities.
Responsibilities:
Core Projects & Learning Opportunities (Approx. 70%):
- Social Media & Digital Marketing – Manage and maintain the office’s social media accounts (Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook) by creating engaging, mission-driven content; plan social media calendars; and track engagement metrics.
- Content Creation – Design graphics, write copy, and assist in the production of newsletters, promotional materials, and event communications.
- Website Management – Update and maintain content on the office’s website to ensure accessibility, accuracy, and relevance.
- Event Marketing Support – Assist in promoting events and initiatives through targeted outreach, marketing campaigns, and photography/videography.
- Research & Reporting – Conduct research on topics related to diversity, equity, and inclusion; compile findings into summaries, reports, or presentations to inform projects and initiatives.
- Special Projects – Collaborate with CED staff on high-impact projects such as campaign development, student engagement initiatives, and storytelling efforts that highlight campus diversity efforts.
Administrative Support (Approx. 30%):
- Update databases, track engagement data, and maintain organized filing systems.
- Assist in creating supporting documents to streamline data (Microsoft Word, Google Sheets, Excel, etc).
- Schedule meetings with student assistants to connect and collaborate on assigned project deadlines
Requirements:
- Minimum 2.0 GPA
- Undergraduate student with a minimum of 60 earned credits before internship
- Must be a URI student with good academic and social standing with the university
Skills:
- Strong Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to interact professionally with staff, clients, and visitors.
- Organizational Skills: Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively.
- Attention to Detail: High level of accuracy and attention to detail, especially when performing data entry and proofreading tasks.
- Computer Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and other relevant software applications. Experience with database management is a plus.
- Reliability: Dependable and punctual, with a commitment to fulfilling job duties consistently.
- Adaptability: Ability to adapt to changing priorities and work effectively in a fast-paced environment, and work independently.
- Professionalism: Maintain a professional demeanor and uphold office etiquette standards.
