Akron Community Internship: Akron Digital Communications Intern at Plexus LGBT & Allied Chamber of Commerce

Plexus is a strategic partner in the economic development of Northeast Ohio and serves as a point of connection for corporations, supporters, LGBT businesses and professionals. As the only LGBTQ business and professional organization in the region, we are more than a chamber of commerce; Plexus is a unique and influential network.

Hours: 100 hours during the internship.
Date: Spring 2025 (exact dates TBD to accommodate student schedules) 
Location: Hybrid/Remote

Position Overview

Plexus LGBT & Allied Chamber of Commerce is looking for a student to bring awareness of their organization to businesses and professionals of the Akron area.

Key Responsibilities

• Create a social media playbook for staff that includes cadence of posts, event creation, and posting process/guidelines.
• Coordinate content from the Plexus staff and board members and deliver a monthly digital membership newsletter.
• Implement communications protocol for event follow-up.
• Create and post engaging multimedia content that showcases our impact, programs, and activities.
• Monitor social media engagement posts and metrics to optimize connects, social performance, and reach.
• Stay current with digital trends and platform updates to provide recommendations to Plexus staff on tools, processes, and guidelines.
• Support Plexus events, workshops, and activities where interest and need intersect.

Qualifications

• General knowledge of the LGBTQ+ collective and current environment impacting LGBTQ+ businesses and employees.
• Experience with content creation tools (i.e. Canva).
• Experience with social media management platforms (i.e. Meta, LinkedIn).
• Strong project management and organization skills.
• Strong intercommunication skills; ability to engage with colleagues, business owners, community leaders and more.
