Actuarial Intern

The Actuarial Interns will work under various associates in the Actuarial departments within Small Business Benefits and Voluntary Benefits. The program is 10 weeks long starting in end of May/early June and ending in early August. The position is hybrid, working three days in the office (typically Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday), and two days remote.

 

 

Responsible for trying out the day-to-day challenges of real actuarial work and contributes to the financial success of our operating divisions by assisting with pricing decisions, experience analyses, and reporting of financial results.

 

 

Key Accountabilities:

Preparing actuarial reports under the direction of an actuary.

Running programs to collect and summarize data in Excel to assist actuary in various studies.

Assisting actuary in the analysis of products for which he/she is responsible.

Participating as a team member in both group and individual projects.

Assisting in the review and examination of quarterly and annual statements.

Helping with pricing, experience analysis and forecasting.

Other job-related duties as assigned.

 

Minimum Requirements:

 

Successful completion of at least one Society of Actuaries exam.

GPA of at least 3.0.

Must be receiving a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in winter or spring/summer following the program dates to be considered for the program.

Experience in MS Office.

Excellent mathematical aptitude/skills.

Capable of working quickly and accurately and to recognize and solve problems.

Enjoys working individually and as part of a team.

Ability to develop insights into how the projects worked on furthering the goals of the department/divisions, and the significance of each task that is performed.

Strong initiative.

Detail-oriented.

Excellent oral/written communication skills.

 

Preferred:

Prior experience in MS Office, specifically Excel

Prior work experience.

Strong organizational and project management skills.

Some programming.

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

Effective problem-solving skills and analytical aptitude.

Demonstrated leadership ability.

Interest in the insurance Industry.

 

Please note that housing will be provided for interns who live outside of a 15-mile radius of our Lake Forest office. 

 

The compensation range for this role is the following based on the location of Lake Forest, Illinois:

$18.89 - $27.29 per hour
