Generalist Intern

Generalist Intern (SongwritingWith:Soldiers)

SongwritingWith:Soldiers (SW:S) transforms lives through collaborative songwriting, pairing veterans and service members with professional songwriters to turn personal stories into powerful songs. As a Generalist Intern, you’ll get hands-on experience across operations, social media, and music business administration while supporting a mission that builds connection, creativity, and understanding.

Position Summary

This role is ideal for a curious, organized self-starter who enjoys wearing many hats. You’ll help organize our digital files and data, contribute to social media and storytelling, and support day-to-day administrative and music business tasks.

Key Responsibilities

Database & Digital Organization

  • Help organize and maintain files across Google Drive, Dropbox, and Vimeo (naming conventions, folders, basic metadata).
  • Assist with simple tracking spreadsheets and links between songs, photos, and videos.

Social Media

  • Draft short-form posts and captions aligned with SW:S voice; help schedule content and monitor engagement.
  • Gather approved photos/video snippets and support basic content calendars for programs and releases.

Music Business Administrative Tasks

  • Support light A&R and catalog organization (listening notes, song lists, playlists).
  • Assist with metadata entry, asset organization, and simple release-prep checklists.

General Administrative Tasks

  • Assist with meeting prep, notes, and follow-ups to keep projects moving.
  • Provide event and program support as needed (virtual or in-person if local).
  • Maintaining retreat supply inventory and packing production cases in the office as needed.



 

What You’ll Learn

  • How a mission-driven arts nonprofit integrates programming, communications, and advancement.
  • Practical skills in digital organization, content planning, and simple reporting.
  • Foundations of music operations, including metadata, catalog upkeep, and release workflows.
  • Professional communication and project coordination in a collaborative environment.

Qualifications

  • Current college student (all majors welcome); interest in music, communications, or nonprofit work is a plus.
  • Strong organization and attention to detail; comfort managing checklists and deadlines.
  • Clear, respectful writing style; comfortable drafting short social posts and emails.
  • Familiarity with Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Drive); knowledge of Dropbox and Vimeo is a plus.
  • Bonus skills: Canva or basic design/video tools; spreadsheet basics; social scheduling platforms.
  • Ability to handle sensitive material with discretion and care for veteran stories and privacy.

Location, Hours, and Term

  • Hybrid role: In-office on Mondays and Wednesdays, with an expectation of up to 8 hours per week in person across those days; remaining hours may be completed remotely.
  • Part-time during the academic term (typically 10–15 hours/week; flexible around classes).
  • Start and end dates flexible based on school calendar.

Compensation

$12 per hour (paid internship).
