Location: Hybrid (Remote & In-Person in Porter County, IN)
Duration: 9 months (Beginning September 2025)
Hours: 10–15 hours/week

About First Things First - Porter County
First Things First is a division of the Porter County Community Foundation. It is a community-driven initiative dedicated to supporting early childhood development and family well-being in Porter County. We work collaboratively with local partners to ensure every child has a strong start in life.
Internship Overview
We are seeking a creative, motivated, and socially conscious college student to join our team as a Social Media & Content Development Intern. This intern will play a key role in designing, managing, implementing and analyzing a year-long campaign to promote our work and partners’ programming through innovative integrations with Lantern services, a national text messaging service that provides free, evidence-based tips and resources for parents and caregivers of young children.
Key Responsibilities
Content Creation & Strategy
- Develop platform appropriate and engaging, family-friendly content (graphics, videos, reels, stories, etc.) for platforms such as LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, and/or TikTok.
- Align content with Lantern messaging themes (e.g., child development, local events, parenting tips).
- Create a monthly content calendar in collaboration with the First Things First team.
Campaign Management
- Schedule and publish posts using social media management tools (e.g., Buffer, Hootsuite).
- Monitor engagement and respond to comments/messages in a timely and professional manner.
- Collaborate with our partners to amplify their events and resources and to promote the use of Lantern.
Analytics & Reporting
- Track platform relevant performance metrics (reach, engagement, click-throughs, sign-ups).
- Provide bi-monthly reports with insights and recommendations for improvement.
Community Engagement
- Assist in promoting Lantern sign-ups at local events and through digital outreach.
- Help identify and highlight local stories, testimonials, and family voices.
Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in a relevant college or university program (communications, marketing, public health, education, or related field preferred).
- Strong writing, visual storytelling, and digital design skills.
- Familiarity with social media platforms and trends.
- Experience with Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar tools.
- Passion for early childhood development and community engagement.
- Self-starter with strong organizational and time management skills.
