CABVI is seeking a part-time JAWS Trainer to provide instruction and support to individuals with visual impairments on how to effectively use the JAWS (Job Access With Speech) screen reader software. This role involves teaching users how to navigate the computer interface, access information, and perform tasks using JAWS, enhancing their independence and enabling them to participate more fully in various aspects of life, including education, employment, and daily living.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Conduct assessments with consumers to determine their individual technological needs and the appropriate course of training. Document instruction provided to consumer and the progress toward goals. Assess learner progress and provide feedback and support throughout the training process.
  • Design and deliver training programs that empower individuals who are blind to navigate digital environments independently and efficiently, using JAWS. Training programs could be delivered individually and/or in group settings.
  • Complete all documentation for reporting and billing in a timely manner as directed by your supervisor and in accordance with CABVI guidelines.
  • Remain current in technology, this would include both hardware and software. Willing to learn new assistive technology and applications for those with visual impairments.
  • Work with the Assistive Technology Manager to develop opportunities to share technology with other professionals in the form of workshops, conferences, staff training days, agency tours and more.
  • Continually research advances in the technology field, new products and applications. Attend trainings and meetings, as needed. Willing to advance your knowledge in computer skills through continuing education.
  • Adapt to change and completes other duties as assigned.
  • Consistently achieves annual performance objectives

Requirements Include:

  • Minimum of an associate’s degree in teaching, vocational training, technology, or education required.
  • Formal training certificates in software or hardware applications may be substituted for advanced degrees.
  • Certifications in assistive tech or screen readers is a plus. A minimum of one year experience in a teaching or training capacity required. Teaching experience relevant to the instruction of legally blind and or individuals with disabilities or learning challenges preferred.
  • Must be knowledgeable regarding conventional hardware/software and installation on both PC and Macintosh systems. Familiarity with assistive technologies. Demonstrated competency with current computer and assistive technology as it relates to working with individuals who are blind or visually impaired, including JAWS, ZoomText, NVDA (Non-Visual Desktop Access), typing programs, Microsoft Office, Braille input and output devices, note takers, and adaptive keyboards. Fluency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Word, Power Point, Excel. Must have knowledge in Google applications such as Docs and Sheets, mobile device applications including iOS and Android.
