Summary:
 

Performs highly specialized, law related activities requiring investigative research, analysis, and interpretation of laws and regulations for the Department of Justice (DOJ), through the Office of the Solicitor General and all attorneys handling criminal and civil appeals and certain habeas corpus matters.
 

 

Responsibilities:
 

Coordinate with county attorney’s offices, victim witness advocates and/or state agencies to obtain complete appellate files for the office and ensure a proper channel of communication is established between the DOJ and those persons as the appeal proceeds.

 

Support appellate attorneys in the preparation for hearings and argument and ensure they have the information required to successfully handle a case or appeal while meeting the State’s obligations under RSA 21-M:8-k.

 

Administer case files and file briefs, motions, and other documents in various appellate courts and court systems, including the state supreme court and superior courts, the federal district court, First Circuit Court of Appeals and United States Supreme Court.

 

Assume tasks related to cases and appeals within the Office of the Solicitor General as directed including supervising and coordinating appeals timelines and tracking deadlines, status of briefs and other filings, state’s appeals requests, and amicus requests.

 

In partnership with the Solicitor General, issues administrative and filing policies with respect to appellate files, briefs, and the filing of briefs. Writes, compiles, schedules and submits appeals and other filings in accordance with state and federal laws regarding civil and criminal appeals and various court rules.

 

Ensures the integrity of transcribed pleadings, memoranda, letters and deposition transcripts for the Solicitor General and other attorneys handling matters within the Office of the Solicitor General.

 

Prepares electronic presentations for trials and trainings and assists the attorneys by handling the technical aspects of these presentations during trial or trainings.

 

 

Research and develop policy and procedure for the Appeal Program including analysis of existing policies and procedures to recommend effective changes.


 

 

 

YOUR EXPERIENCE COUNTS:

Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience and/or each additional year of approved work experience may be substituted for one year of required formal education. 


 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Bachelor’s degree from a recognized college or university with a major study in law, paralegal studies, or a related legal field. Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience.

 

Experience: Four years of experience in legal research, legal investigative, paralegal work, criminal justice with responsibility for program implementation, direct service delivery, planning or program evaluation. Each additional year of approved work experience may be substituted for one year of required formal education.

 

License/Certification: None required.
