About the Second Amendment Project
The Second Amendment Project examines legal precedents, history, philosophy, and empirical evidence in Colorado, across the United States, and internationally. Its mission is to provide courts, legislatures, and engaged citizens with informed perspectives on the right to arms and the right of self-defense.
Internship Overview
An internship with the Second Amendment Project offers undergraduate, graduate, and law students the chance to gain hands-on experience in a leading public policy environment. Interns typically serve as research assistants, supporting scholarship and legal analysis while also gaining exposure to nonprofit policy work.
Intern projects vary depending on organizational needs and may include:
- Legal and historical research.
- Drafting and editing policy papers, articles, or briefs.
- Assisting in the preparation of amicus briefs.
- Contributing to cutting-edge scholarly research.
Assignments are designed not only to advance the Project’s work but also to help interns grow professionally and academically.
Learning Opportunity
Interns work directly with Dave Kopel, one of America’s top constitutional scholars and a premier expert on the right to arms. Kopel has authored extensively on constitutional, historical, and philosophical issues, served on the oral argument team in District of Columbia v. Heller, and his work has been cited in more than 100 judicial opinions, including seven U.S. Supreme Court cases.
This unique internship provides the opportunity to learn from a nationally recognized scholar and to contribute to work that influences courts, legislatures, and public debate.
