Process Development Scientist Intern

POSITION FUNCTION:  Assists in the conducting and supporting of research under the direction of a full-time process development scientist (or under an associate process development scientist or senior process development scientist); Participate and coordinate development testing to optimize a process resulting in further development of customer confidence in the feasibility of a purchase. 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

Essential Tasks:

  1. Under direction of another scientist, implement individual customer product testing and contracted development projects; Maintain detailed reports of customer testing and data generation; Interface directly with customer on process assistance; Provide follow-up contact with customer after completion of lab work.
  2. Evaluate customer needs and advise on equipment selection and use to meet the stated needs most effectively; Coordinate with and advise Engineering department of customer requirements for purchasing equipment and designing alterations to standard equipment to meet objectives of customer; Interface and assist with coordination of sales, service, and engineering efforts to accommodate customers’ needs.
  3. Participate in setup and cleaning of processing equipment and process room. 
  4. Perform routine maintenance on laboratory equipment.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Education: High school graduate or equivalent required.  Four-year degree in a Science or Engineering or demonstrated progress towards such degree or equivalent experience required. Proficiency in English required, other languages are encouraged. 
  2. Experience: Experience in one or more of following fields is preferred: Fluid bed, tablet coating, roll compaction, and solid dosage formulation.           
  3. Relevant Skills: Must have ability to interface with customers, field sales and other company personnel on a technical level; Should have strong writing and communication skills; Must be able to resolve basic problems related to areas of expertise; Must be a self-starter. Ability to handle stress produced by time pressure, market ambiguities, and customer demands, etc.; Must be able to concentrate for prolonged periods with significant distractions.
  4. Physical Requirements:  Constantly required to stand; frequently required to sit, walk, bend, squat, and reach; frequently required to lift and carry up to 50#; frequently required to work in dusty and noisy conditions; Occasionally needed to climb and perform tasks at heights up to 20 feet; Manual dexterity required during assembly and disassembly of equipment; Travel and driving are required. Occasionally required to work in small, confined areas or in humid conditions.
